Postdoctoral Associate – Integrated Climate Risk Management in Urban Coasts
1 week ago
The Rutgers University Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences invites applications for a postdoctoral associate, starting Fall with interests in climate risk, climate risk management, and co-production of research with stakeholder partners. Starting Fall 2023, the candidate will join the Rutgers University Earth System Science & Policy Lab ) and the Megalopolitan Coastal Transformation Hub ( MACH , ), under the direction of Professor Robert Kopp. MACH , a transdisciplinary research network analyzing coastal climate risk management strategies, which will provide unique opportunities for research, education, outreach, decision support, and professional development. Principal responsibilities include developing and applying integrated coupled natural-human system models to characterize adaptation challenges and support climate adaptation decision making, as well as working with climate engagement professionals to ensure stakeholder concerns and decision-maker needs are reflected in model development.
Overview
The Rutgers University Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences invites applications for a postdoctoral associate, starting Fall with interests in climate risk, climate risk management, and co-production of research with stakeholder partners. Supported by a cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation, the Megapolitan Coastal Transformation Hub ( MACH ) is a Rutgers-led, 13-institution hub within the NSF's Coastlines and People program. Working with community partners in the New York City-New Jersey-Philadelphia region, MACH aims to 1) facilitate flexible, equitable, and robust multidecadal planning to manage climate risk, while 2) advancing the scientific understanding of how interactions among coastal climate hazards, changing landforms, and human decisions shape climate risk. We are seeking candidates with a strong background in climate change from a natural science, social science, economic or decision analysis perspective, who desire to expand their experience in a transdisciplinary research environment. The position will be based at Rutgers-New Brunswick. The position is a grant-funded annual position, with renewal for a second year expected subject to performance.
