The role of Nurse Educator/IPC-Infection Prevention & Control includes consultation, research, leadership, and education, for all employees, Residents, volunteers, and visitors at the Hardisty Care Centre. This position will enhance Resident care outcomes and employee professional development through leadership in expert clinical practice. The position is responsible for supporting clinical best practices, minimizing risk to employees and Residents by providing education in-services and employee development of personnel in all departments within the Hardisty Care Centre. Works collaboratively with department supervisors to establish and implement an educational plan on an annual and ongoing basis. Works with community partners to provide necessary and innovative in-services. Actively participates in designated committees. Works with the Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) Committee and the Integrated Quality Management Committee (IQMC) to educate care professionals, support staff, residents and their families on infection prevention and control practices and techniques.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinates, plans, implements, and evaluates the orientation program for new employees.
- Collaborates with other leaders of the interdisciplinary team to ensure effective, consistent, and comprehensive new employee orientation has been concluded in a timeframe conducive to optimal job performance.
- Develops, presents, and evaluates in-services and other educational programs as required.
- Maintains current clinical competence and knowledge through best practice. Meets all legislated, provincial and accreditation standards.
- Contributes to quality of care and safety assurance and improvement by participating in Park Place site committees (e.g., Leadership Team, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Medical Advisory Committee).
- Maintains a positive liaison with community partners and resource agencies.
- Participates and/or takes a lead in quality improvement/performance measurement initiatives and processes.
- Work to prevent and control outbreaks of infection by:
- Facilitating the implementation and evaluation of Park Place infection prevention and control policies, guidelines, processes and measures.
- Collecting and analyzing infection control data through quality improvement audits
- Providing consultation on infection risk, prevention and control strategies
- Monitoring critical infection control indicators (examples may include hand hygiene rates, influenza, and COVID-19 vaccination rates)
- Other activities as determined by the Infection Control Committee.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
The Educator's position requires a significant amount of lifting, bending, walking, sitting and standing. Lifting 20-lbs. maximum. More frequent lifting of 10 lbs. or less. A regular day may involve four (4) hours of walking and frequent bending or crouching. Must be willing to work flexible hours.
