Purpose:

The Laboratory Support Assistant provides administrative and operational support to Chemistry, Biology, and Physics laboratories under the direction of Director, Lab Operations.

Education:

Completion of college diploma in a laboratory technician program or related field.

Experience:

Minimum of 6-month experience with standard molecular biology techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, and nucleic acid and protein purification. Familiarity with first year lab courses in Chemistry, Biology, Physics and the equipment used therein. Must be able to run through first year lab experiments when provided with detailed instructions.

Skills:

Ability to demonstrate organizational skills to carry out a variety of tasks.

Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to deal courteously and effectively with others.

Completion of WHMIS Level II Safety Training.

Ability to understand and demonstrate instructions, policies and procedures.

Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel).

Ability to lift items up to 45lbs
