Job Description
The Principal leads major components of the Engagement and Facilitation Service Area at TWC, overseeing the delivery of complex projects and deepening client relationships. The Principal will act as a trusted advisor to clients, contributing to business development through strategic insights, proposal development, and delivery excellence and provide mentorship to consultants, supporting team growth. They will produce high-quality outcomes by applying established methodologies and fostering innovation, while embedding a multi-lens approach and modelling TWC's values of trust, integrity, respect, and reciprocity in all leadership and client interactions.
The Principal, Engagement and Facilitation brings extensive and demonstrated experience in First Nations, Inuit, and Métis engagement and consultation, including knowledge of relevant legislation and case law in the context of major projects, regulatory processes, including Impact Assessments, and community-based initiatives. They are also experienced at facilitating meaningful discussion and engaging participants to support multi-directional information sharing, collaboration, and consensus-seeking, including where engagement materials have been developed by others.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee high-quality engagement, facilitation, and consultation projects to ensure delivery within scope, schedule, and budget using in-person, virtual, or hybrid approaches.
- Embed multi-lens perspectives into engagement and facilitation activities and across project delivery.
- Align engagement processes and approaches with regulatory requirements and Indigenous rights frameworks.
- Oversee and ensure quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation across projects.
- Develop and implement project-specific engagement strategies with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis, government agencies, and industry partners.
- Design and deliver culturally appropriate, collaborative engagement approaches that foster curiosity and support multi-directional information sharing.
- Build and maintain trust-based relationships with clients, community leadership and community members.
- Communicate complex technical information in accurate and concise plain language.
- Facilitate meetings, workshops, and dialogue sessions that foster understanding and consensus across diverse participants.
- Develop and implement culturally appropriate facilitation methods that anticipate potential conflict, and when required, manage conflict resolution in a respectful manner.
- Provide expert advice on consultation obligations, informed by legislation, policy, current political context, and best practices.
- Oversee engagement and consultation tracking and lead the development of culturally appropriate engagement and issues summaries that meet regulatory requirements.
- Support clients in designing and delivering consultation programs that meet or exceed legal and ethical requirements.
- Lead development and governance of Engagement, Facilitation and Consultation methodologies and standards.
- Mentor consultants to strengthen their engagement, facilitation, consultation, and core consulting skills.
- Champion cross-disciplinary collaboration to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions.
- Model and maintain best practices in health and safety across all operations.
- Provide technical and administrative support to Engagement and Facilitation consultants.
- Monitor industry trends, legislation, and emerging engagement technologies, and lead the adoption of best practices.
Client and Business Development (25%)
- Lead proposal development and strategic pursuits to drive revenue growth.
- Develop and grow client relationships to position TWC as a trusted advisor.
- Identify opportunities to expand services and market share.
- Represent TWC at industry events to strengthen brand reputation.
Qualifications
- Indigenous lived experience strongly preferred.
- Extensive experience designing and delivering engagement, consultation, and facilitation using in-person and virtual methods.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate both technical and plain language information as appropriate for the audience.
- Proven ability to lead complex, multi-party processes.
- Demonstrated understanding of regulatory requirements and associated engagement expectations for major projects.

- Strong understanding of Indigenous rights, governance, and cultural protocols.
- Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- IAP2 training or equivalent preferred.
- Degree in social science or environmental discipline, such as Indigenous Studies, Environmental Science, Public Policy, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience planning, designing, and delivering engagement, facilitation and consultation activities, including with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples.
