Social Media Coordinator – NAIT Nugget

Are you creative, trend-obsessed, and have an eye for design? The Nugget is looking for a Social Media Coordinator to help us connect to our audience.

The Nugget is NAIT's student news; our job is to report what's happening on campus and share the student voice. You'll be responsible for creating content that captures the spirit of articles, making videos that resonate, and managing our comment sections. The ideal candidate will be familiar with various social media platforms, have a basic understanding of graphic design/tools, and be ready to share ideas with the team

Main Responsibilities:

  • Create content for multiple platforms: Working with the Editor-in-Chief (EIC), you'll help select what content we feature on social media and make captivating and branded content to help it shine. You'll work within our brand guidelines to create or schedule 3–5 posts a week per platform.
  • Manage our Content Calendar: Organization is key here, as you'll be working in our content calendar to make sure everything is planned and ready You'll write captions, link to posts, and suggest hashtags for approval by the EIC.
  • Brainstorm new ideas: The Nugget is always looking for new ways to connect with our audience, so you'll need to bring your ideas to the table. Want to join a new platform? Got a great idea for a TikTok or Instagram Reel? Found a new way to beat the algorithm? We want to hear it
  • Collaborate to turn print content digital: You'll need to be comfortable in front of the camera  Working in collaboration with the Video Editor and Digital Content Creator, you'll film trends, turn articles into videos, and occasionally attend events to recap them for our audience.

This might be the job for you if: 

  • You love social media. As the primary content creator, you'll need to be aware of trends, familiar with platforms, and constantly innovating. If you spend more time than you should doomscrolling or are chronically online, you'll fit right in.
  • You have an eye for design. We'll give you the tools and guidelines, but it's up to you to make our content shine. You don't need to be an expert, but you should have some understanding of what makes a visually compelling post
  • You're organized, reliable, and quick to adapt. You believe consistency is key, and you have no trouble juggling multiple tasks and deadlines. There are lots of moving parts to a media machine, so we need someone that can be flexible. Breaking news happens, and you may need to react quickly

Qualifications:

  • You're a current NAIT student enrolled in classes until at least April 2026. The Social Media Coordinator is a part-time salary position that begins November 1, 2025 and ends April 15, 2026. You must be enrolled in classes in both the Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 terms to be eligible. The salary for this position is $500/month.
  • Working knowledge of relevant platforms and tools (Canva, Adobe Suite, Hootsuite, Capcut, etc.)
  • Available for a minimum of 10 hours per week, starting November 1, 2025.
  • Previous experience with the Nugget is a bonus.
