Specializing in Pipeline, Facility, and Civil Construction, WGL has grown from a single-crew operation to a company employing over 500 full- and part-time workers throughout Western Canada.

We are currently seeking a Permanent Earthworks QA/QC Inspector to join our Civil Construction Division.

Position Overview

The Earthworks QA/QC Inspector will be responsible for ensuring all aspects of earthworks and civil construction projects meet engineering specifications, client requirements, and applicable codes and standards. This role involves detailed inspection, documentation, and communication to maintain the highest levels of quality and compliance across project sites.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in earthworks, civil construction, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of CSA, ASTM, and Alberta Transportation or equivalent specifications and testing standards.
  • Familiarity with proctor testing, density requirements, and material classification (granular, clay, topsoil, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, specifications, and survey data.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing QA/QC documentation, inspection reports, and non-conformance records.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and basic data management software.
  • Valid First Aid, and CSO (or equivalent) safety certifications.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with acceptable driver's abstract.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain QA/QC programs for earthworks, grading, and civil construction projects.
  • Conduct inspections on subgrade preparation, compaction, fill placement, trenching, and backfilling operations.
  • Verify materials, testing results, and workmanship conform to project specifications and engineering drawings.
  • Oversee and coordinate third-party materials testing (density, moisture content, sieve analysis, etc.).
  • Review and compile quality documentation, including inspection reports, test results, and daily records.
  • Identify and report non-conformances, assist with root cause analysis, and verify corrective actions.
  • Prepare and maintain as-built documentation and support project close-out packages.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Survey, and Client Representatives to ensure quality and schedule alignment.
  • Promote WGL's culture of safety and continuous improvement in all field activities.
  • Interact with various managers to ensure the expedient transfer of documentation and records specific to product and services.
  • Perform internal QA audits that are compliant with corporate policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Consult leadership as required.
  • Overtime as required.
