The Opportunity

The Climate Action Analyst is responsible for researching, analyzing and developing climate action options, facilitating internal and external input, developing strategic relationships/partnerships, and supporting initiatives through project planning, communication, leading and facilitating meetings, consulting, overseeing tasks, timelines and deliverables.

Status: Casual, Full-Time, Union
Number of Positions: 1
Pay Grade: Grade 16 ($46.27/hour - $53.59/hour)
Location: open to any of our BC regional offices (hybrid work environment)
Reports to: Leader, Climate Action & Sustainability

As a Climate Action Advisor, you will be responsible for:

  • Advises organizational decision-makers and project leaders to help them understand and define climate change risks and opportunities.
  • Supports projects that drive Technical Safety BC's strategy and the climate action team's goals. For example, participates in development of training materials, supports development and implementation of codes and standards that address climate safety and resiliency issues, uses data (such as permit, incident, and inspection data) to identify climate safety risks and opportunities.
  • Collaborates with external partners on climate projects and initiatives, and represents Technical Safety BC at external forums.
  • Works collaboratively and cross-functionally on risk assessment, data analysis, solutions development, and reporting for climate issues both internal and external to the organization.
  • Uses data and translates findings into actionable insights based on a deep understanding of the safety system and climate policy (i.e., current client segments, stakeholders, the broader climate policy contexts in which they work and how this relates to existing policy & regulatory structures, programs, products and services).
  • Presents and communicates concepts in clear and innovative ways to effectively reach and influence target audiences and optimize uptake in decision-making processes, including at senior leadership levels.
  • Champions evidence-based recommendations for climate adaptation and mitigation solutions with decision-makers and project leaders.
  • Lead efforts to make climate change knowledge more centralized and accessible across the organization.
  • Contributes as a subject matter expert to the establishment of organizational standards, guidelines and tools related to climate adaptation and mitigation.
  • Contributes as a subject matter expert to the continuous learning and development of the team and wider organization through ongoing knowledge sharing and transfer.
  • Leads and provides input on reports, presentations and business cases in support of departmental needs and initiatives.
  • Supports own professional development goals.

 Knowledge, Skills & Experience you have:

  • Post-secondary degree (Master's preferred) in engineering, planning, policy, environmental science or studies, and/or resource management or a related discipline, or equivalent, or relevant trade education and experience. t.
  • A minimum of 5 years' work experience, such as:
    • Participating in or conducting climate change related research;
    • Developing, implementing, and evaluating climate solutions;
    • Extracting and analyzing data from databases and records;
  • Application and development of codes and standards. Strong knowledge of climate science, climate policy, and climate solutions, and knowledge of best practices, and/or field experience with technologies used in electrification of buildings and transportation.
  • Excellent data visualization, knowledge translation, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent command of the English language
  • Good project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite; CRM and other software an asset
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships in stakeholder-rich environments
  • Adaptability, proactivity, and ability to work independently under pressure with quickly changing priorities and deadlines
  • Superior interpersonal skills; ability to exercise a high degree of tact and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive data
  • Sense of humor
