Truckload Operations Manager
to join our Operations Department. The
Truckload Operations Manager
is responsible for leading the daily operations of the truckload segment with a strong focus on efficiency, cost control, service excellence, and staff development.
Key responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of truckload transportation, optimizing routing and scheduling, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This role manages and coordinates transportation resources to meet service level agreements (SLAs) and builds a high-performing team through development and succession planning.
Qualifications:
Transportation and Industry Knowledge
- 5-7 years in transportation or a related field such as warehousing, logistics, etc.
- 3-5 years leadership experience.
- Solid understanding of transportation operations, industry standards, and regulatory requirements
- Practical experience managing freight, drivers, and routing in a high-paced environment preferred
- Understanding of the variables that impact the trucking industry, such as labour market, tariffs, etc.
Operational Execution and Problem Solving
- Proven track record of identifying issues and suggesting methods for improvement; experience addressing transportation-specific issues service issues, delays, and process gaps in real-time
- Experience in program review and oversight, with the ability to develop performance metrics and KPIs to align with corporate performance and financial objectives
- Proven ability to build and document departmental processes, workflows and SLAs to increase operational efficiency and service delivery.
- Experience leading or partnering in projects and change initiatives, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders to build consensus.

- Proven commitment to leading and supporting a diverse workforce; demonstrated knowledge of emotional and cultural intelligence used to inform communication.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and influencing skills.

- Experience leading frontline teams, including scheduling, coaching, and performance management
- Demonstrated ability to develop teams and succession plans helping team members grow, build confidence, and take ownership of their work

- Demonstrated, strong written and verbal communication skills Clear and confident communicator, both written and verbal
- Proven ability to develop partnerships and communicate at all organizational levels
- High level of business and political acumen, able to handle conversations with tact and diplomacy
- Skilled at managing customer expectations and resolving issues professionally and respectfully
Technology and Tools
- Proficient in transportation software systems such as TMW/Trimble, preferred but not required and everyday tools like Microsoft Excel, Word, and Gmail
- Comfortable learning new systems and using technology to support operations and reporting
Time Management and Flexibility
- High tolerance for ambiguity; with the ability to reprioritize and manage a large volume of competing priorities.
- Comfortable working under pressure and finding practical solutions to meet deadlines and service expectations
- Self-driven and dependable, with a willingness to step in where needed, including outside of regular hours when necessary
- High attention to detail while still managing large volumes of work.

- Proven track record of continues improvement focus with a history of proactively identifying issues and recommending solutions
- Open to feedback and eager to take on new challenges
- Development-focused with a desire to grow as part of a succession plan
Responsibilities:
Operational Execution and Performance Monitoring
- Monitor and action daily freight flow, ensuring loads are planned, dispatched, and delivered on time
- Track KPIs (e.g., service levels, trailer usage, on-time performance), and communicate daily/weekly results to the team
- Support the implementation of corrective actions when service failures or inefficiencies are identified
- Assist in coordinating weekly network balancing and equipment planning
- Run and review operational reports (driver scorecards, service exceptions, etc.) to support informed decision-making
- Support the Director in collecting and preparing operational data for larger reviews or corporate reporting
Process Improvement & Problem Solving
- Identify process inefficiencies in daily operations and work with the team to implement practical, sustainable improvements
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service and reduce operational costs
- Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., customer service, traffic, and fleet) to resolve issues and improve coordination
- Proactively address internal and external concerns that impact service, including issues raised by drivers, customers, or other teams
- Support bid analysis or freight routing feedback when needed, based on market and network understanding
Team Leadership & Staff Development
- Lead, support, and coach frontline staff including planners, dispatchers, and coordinators
- Provide regular feedback, set daily/weekly expectations, and support employee development through on-the-job learning
- Ensure cross-training within the team to support operational flexibility
- Work with senior leaders to identify high-potential employees and support succession planning
- Support onboarding and training of new team members to ensure understanding of systems, processes, and expectations
Service & Customer Support
- Ensure timely and professional communication between the operations team and customer service
- Support resolution of customer issues, delays, or service failures, escalating when needed
- Participate in customer calls or meetings when required, providing operational insight and support
- Monitor service reports and collaborate with the team to address recurring issues or areas of concern
Fleet Safety & Compliance
- Monitor compliance with ELDs, safety protocols, inspections, and driving behavior
- Support safety initiatives by reinforcing training and regulatory standards with frontline staff and drivers
- Communicate safety-related concerns to the appropriate teams and participate in developing improvement plans
- Review accident or incident reports as needed and support operational follow-up with the fleet team
