As a Dispatcher, you are the communication hub for emergency and non-emergency operations, ensuring rapid, accurate, and coordinated response under the direction of the Fire Captain. You'll receive, record, and transmit critical information, deploy resources, and maintain detailed logs while safeguarding confidentiality. This role demands vigilance, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in high-pressure situations to keep people and operations safe.
How You'll ContributeAs a Dispatcher, you will play a critical role in ensuring seamless and efficient emergency response coordination:
- Coordinate emergency response by monitoring radio channels and phone lines, logging calls, and deploying personnel and resources per established protocols.
- Manage non-emergency inquiries (wildlife sightings, hazards, road closures, mask fit-test bookings) and direct callers appropriately.
- Track confined space activities, maintain entry boards, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records including dispatch logs, fuel usage, patient databases, and emergency call reports.
- Safeguard confidential information and adhere to strict security protocols.
- Conduct equipment checks, report deficiencies, and keep communication systems operational.
- Stay current with site-specific safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and infrastructure (meeting points, AED locations).
- Update and manage resources such as contact lists, site maps, and response boards.
- Maintain a clean, organized dispatch office and follow evacuation procedures; participate in drills.
- Support onboarding and training for new dispatchers; complete mandatory courses and continuing education.
- Participate in daily team meetings, promote a positive workplace culture, and assist with administrative tasks.
- Represent the company professionally in all interactions with clients and contractors.
- Document emergency events thoroughly, assist responders with directions and hazard updates, and communicate timely updates to essential personnel and agencies.
- Research and provide critical information during incidents, manage communications on behalf of the officer-in-charge, and conduct all-call notifications when required.
- Contribute to post-incident debriefings, investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Must-haves (minimum requirements):
• Dispatching Certificate in Emergency Services or equivalent
• ICS 100
• A valid driver's license and a clean driving record
• H2S Alive
• CSTS
• Strong communication skills, both orally and written.
Preference for:
• years of relevant industry experience is an asset
