About the Role

The Head of People & Culture is a hands-on, trusted leader responsible for building, supporting, and evolving the employee experience at Mine & Yours. This role blends HR operations, people strategy, and culture leadership, ensuring our team feels supported, compliant, engaged, and set up to succeed as the business grows.

This is not a purely strategic or systems-focused role. The Head of People & Culture is in the details, partnering closely with leadership, store teams, and HQ to manage payroll, employment standards, onboarding, performance, training, and day-to-day people matters.

This is a head-of-department role. You will build the People & Culture function from the ground up, with all people operations and initiatives reporting into this role, and you will report directly to the COO. This role plays a key part in shaping Mine & Yours as an employer of choice while maintaining operational excellence, clarity, and care across the organization.

What You'll Do

People Operations & Compliance

  • Own all core HR operations including payroll, benefits administration, employee records, and HR documentation
  • Ensure compliance with employment standards, labour laws, and workplace policies across provinces
  • Manage employee lifecycle processes including hiring support, onboarding, offboarding, and internal transitions
  • Serve as the go-to resource for employee questions related to policies, pay, benefits, and workplace matters
  • Partner with external vendors as needed (payroll, benefits, legal, HR consultants)

Onboarding, Training & Development

  • Design and continuously improve onboarding programs that set employees up for success from day one
  • Partner with leaders to develop training programs for retail, HQ, and leadership roles
  • Support performance management cycles including goal setting, feedback, reviews, and development plans
  • Coach leaders on people management, performance conversations, and team development
  • Identify growth opportunities and career pathways to support retention and engagement

Performance & Employee Experience

  • Lead performance management processes with clarity, fairness, and consistency
  • Support leaders with performance improvement plans, coaching conversations, and accountability frameworks
  • Foster a culture of feedback, recognition, and continuous improvement
  • Address employee relations matters with empathy, discretion, and professionalism
  • Help leaders navigate change with clear communication and people-first decision making

Culture & Engagement

  • Champion Mine & Yours' values across all people practices and employee touchpoints
  • Support initiatives that build connection, inclusion, and engagement across teams and locations
  • Partner with leadership to maintain a strong, healthy culture during periods of growth or change
  • Act as a cultural steward, ensuring the employee experience aligns with the brand experience
  • Support internal communications that keep teams informed, aligned, and connected

Leadership Partnership & Growth

  • Partner closely with the CEO and leadership team to align people strategy with business goals
  • Provide insight on workforce planning, organizational design, and team structure as the company evolves
  • Bring structure, clarity, and process to people operations without overcomplicating them
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and employee experience across the organization
  • Balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution every day

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in HR, People Operations, or HR Generalist roles
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian employment law, payroll, and HR best practices
  • Experience supporting retail or multi-location teams is a strong asset
  • Hands-on experience with onboarding, performance management, and employee relations
  • Ability to build trust quickly and communicate with empathy and clarity
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
  • Confident advising leaders while staying grounded and practical
  • Passion for people, culture, and building thoughtful employee experiences
  • Interest in fashion, retail, or purpose-driven businesses is a plus

Key Measures of Success

  • Smooth, compliant, and accurate people operations
  • Strong onboarding experience and early employee engagement
  • Consistent and fair performance management practices across teams
  • High trust between employees, leaders, and People & Culture
  • Reduced turnover and improved employee satisfaction
  • Leaders feel supported and confident managing their teams

What's In It for You

  • Market-aligned pay, health benefits, and vacation.
  • Store discount and monthly clothing allowance.
  • A supportive, creative culture where ideas and individuality are celebrated.
  • The opportunity to grow into future leadership roles within a purpose-driven, sustainable luxury business.

Our Commitment to Inclusion

At Mine & Yours, diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to who we are. We know these values strengthen our business, our team, and our impact in the world. We welcome all qualified candidates to apply and are committed to providing an inclusive and accessible experience for everyone.
