About The Role
We are seeking a skilled Android Software Engineer to join eBay's native Focus Category engineering team. In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting and implementing category-specific features within our core Android application, particularly for our Focus Categories such as Parts & Accessories, Vehicles, Fashion, Collectibles, and Electronics. As part of a dynamic and innovative environment, you will collaborate across multiple domain teams including Search, View Item, and Checkout, ensuring a seamless user experience.

You will work within an agile workflow, engaging directly with product managers, designers, and analytics teams to develop high-performance, scalable features. Your contributions will help enhance eBay's mobile platform by ensuring stability, responsiveness, and quality across all user interactions, ultimately driving customer satisfaction and engagement.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional experience in Android development
  • Proficiency in Kotlin, with Java experience considered a plus
  • Experience with Jetpack Compose and XML-based UI development
  • Strong understanding of Android architectural patterns such as MVVM and unidirectional data flow
  • Experience developing and maintaining small to medium-sized features independently
  • Proficiency in writing unit, UI, and automation tests using Android testing tools
  • Familiarity with dependency management and build tools like Gradle and Artifactory
  • Basic understanding of system design principles for large-scale mobile applications
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, production monitoring, and memory management fundamentals
  • Ability to translate product and design requirements into clean, maintainable, and crash-free code

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, modular, and loosely coupled features for eBay's Android app
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, and Backend to define and ship new features
  • Ensure the performance, quality, responsiveness, and stability of the application
  • Work with backend service teams to design mobile-optimized service contracts
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum processes by providing accurate estimates, identifying risks, and supporting planning and rollout activities
  • Conduct code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement through the adoption of modern Android development practices and tools
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues across development, test, and production environments
  • Stay updated with the latest Android technologies and incorporate them into development processes
