Cafe Portrait is a cozy, art-filled brunch café in Vancouver known for its warm atmosphere, hand-crafted décor, and thoughtful, creative dishes. We are looking for a Cook & Kitchen Lead — someone who loves hands-on cooking but is also excited to help with menu creation, plating, inventory management, and training new kitchen staff.
This is a hybrid role: you'll spend most of your time cooking and plating dishes, but you'll also play a key role in shaping the kitchen workflow, creating new menu items, and keeping the kitchen organized.
What You Will Do
- Prepare and cook brunch and café-style dishes with consistency, accuracy, and speed
- Assist with menu development, including creating new menu items and calculating food costs
- Execute high-quality plating and presentation for every dish
- Train newly hired kitchen staff
- Manage daily prep, ensure proper food handling, and follow food safety standards
- Monitor kitchen workflows and help maintain smooth service during busy periods
- Oversee inventory, track stock levels, and place orders as needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area
- Collaborate closely with the FOH and BOH team in a respectful, supportive environment
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Cook or Line Cook in a professional kitchen
- Strong knowledge of brunch-style cooking, comfort food, and café-style dishes
- Ability to stay calm, organized, and efficient during high-volume service
- Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented work habits
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team
- Creativity and passion for food, with an eye for presentation
- Proven experience in food preparation and cooking within a café or restaurant setting.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
- Previous experience in a similar role.
What We Offer
- Pooled tips shared between BOH and FOH staff, averaging $5–13 per hour

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent
Pay: $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25 – 30 per week
