Magnum Forest Products Ltd. is currently searching for a highly passionate and customer-focused Junior Trader to join our growth-oriented team and contribute to the company's success through buying and selling forest products.
Reporting to the President, the Junior Trader will work both in individual and team capacity to build sustainable businesses by developing long-term mutually beneficial trading partnerships.
Training Program for Junior Traders
Successful candidates will be hired and will actively participate in an 8-12 month training program to develop an in-depth understanding of the lumber trading industry by:
- Working with our logistics department to manage lumber distribution by growing Magnum's transportation network and negotiating overland freight costs with various stakeholders.
- Managing, Negotiating, and Executing shipments for Magnum Forest Products.
- Communicating and collaborating with Magnum Forest Products Commodity Traders to resolve challenges in the distribution of forest products.
- Building and fostering professional relationships with our Commodity Traders to learn about the company's business model.
- Monitoring and analyzing market trends within the forest product trading industry.
- Developing and presenting a personal business plan before transitioning to the trading floor.
Specific Responsibilities of a Commodity Trader
- Building and maintaining professional relationships with external stakeholders, including cold-calling, and qualifying prospects.
- Leading, developing, and supporting trading activities.
- Negotiating prices and sales with producers and consumers.
- Continuously generating new trading ideas by identifying arbitrage opportunities.
- Keeping a constant up-to-date knowledge of the markets.
- Managing trading positions while balancing risk and financing.
- Communicating and collaborating with the operations team to ensure smooth transactions.
Who We're Looking For
Education and Experience
- Degree or Diploma in a related program such as Business or equivalent experience considered an asset.
- Previous experience in a meritocratic role where there is a requirement to influence others decisions and actions considered an asset. For example: sales, account management and business development.
- Experience in competitive sports or other highly competitive roles is considered an asset.
- Background in forestry or lumber is considered an asset.
