The Shlien laboratory is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow with a strong background in genomics and applied cancer research.
Here's What You'll Get To Do
This is a full-time position under the supervision of Dr. Adam Shlien at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), in downtown Toronto, named as the world's best pediatric hospital.
The project involves the development of new methods to diagnose and monitor childhood cancers. This may include the use of ultra-rapid RNA-sequencing for real-time diagnostics and analysis of circulating nucleic acids to monitor drug resistance. The Shlien Lab has pioneered methods to investigate the origins of childhood cancer (e.g., PMID: , , , discover new tumor subtypes using AI-based molecular classification approaches (e.g., PMID: , and integrate these emerging genomic technologies into precision medicine programs for pediatric oncology (e.g., PMID:
The successful applicant will have a strong interest in applied cancer genomics and the technical skills to analyze and interpret a uniquely rich collection of NGS datasets.
SickKids has excellent infrastructure for computational genomics and translational oncology, as well as access to clinical cohorts. The Fellow is expected to independently conduct innovative research. In addition to a generous salary, this fellowship includes a stipend for travel to conferences as well as a research allowance for developing new ideas.
Essential Requirements
Here's What You'll Need:
- PhD in a relevant area (e.g., genomics, molecular biology or cancer).
- Track record of publishing scientific papers in top journals as a lead author.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
- Be able to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Bioinformatics experience is preferred.
- Understand importance and demonstrates ability to foster a culture of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
