About the OpportunityThe Ophthalmic Assistant is responsible for assisting the Ophthalmologist in the clinical setting by completing the initial patient assessment and performing several technical tests. The duties will include history taking (presenting complaint/history of complaint, past ocular history, family history, systemic illness past and present, medications, allergies and drug reactions, other pertinent information for partially sighted patients), basic skills and lensometry (measuring/recording acuity, color vision testing, lensometry, A-scans, Ex ophthalmometry, Ambler grid, evaluations of pupils, estimation of anterior chamber length), patient services, basic tonometry (applanation and non-contact, complications/contraindications, altered IOP factors), instrument maintenance, general medical knowledge.
About YouWe would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Grade 12 or equivalent required
- Successful completion of Ophthalmic Assistant Training Program or equivalent 3rd-year completion of a Masters of Vision Science program from Dalhouse University
- Certification with the Join Commission on Allied Health Personell in Ophthalmology, Ophthalmic Assistant Level, or willing to complete within 12 months of hire
- Previous related job experience is preferred.
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours- Long Assignment, Part-time position; 15 hours bi-weekly
- This position is approximately 24 months in length
- Travel is required for this position.
$ $31.15 Hourly
