The Role
The student will be placed with the IPAC Team, collaborating with a group of IPAC Specialists who design and develop Infection Prevention and Control resources for PHO IPAC knowledge users. Knowledge users include health care sectors such as primary care, acute care, long-term care, retirement homes and other congregate care settings. The student will be responsible for a specific project that supports the development of resources, such as planning and performing knowledge user consultation, and/or an environmental scan and literature review. The student will work collaboratively with IPAC Specialists, and other PHO staff to plan and implement a project using Knowledge Translation and Implementation Science approaches.

- This position is only open to students who are currently enrolled in an academic program where the completion of a practicum placement is required.
- This position is only open to students currently residing in Ontario and attending a Canadian academic institution. Preference will be given to students enrolled in Ontario-based academic institutions.
- This is a paid placement.
Educational Objectives
To gain experience working in a provincial public health agency. To expand understanding of the role of PHO and other public health organizations in supporting IPAC stakeholders in Ontario. To expand understanding of the importance of Knowledge Translation and Implementation Science and collaboration to develop and implement public health improvement projects. To apply Knowledge Translation and Implementation Science knowledge to public health improvement projects. To collaborate with other services at PHO to design and implement an IPAC resource that addresses current IPAC gaps among PHO stakeholders.
Proposed Deliverables At The End Of The Placement
- Design and implementation plan for a portion of an IPAC product development initiative.
- Design of a consultation plan to seek information on knowledge gaps and needs or seek feedback on resource proposals, from a PHO IPAC target audience.
- Analysis of information collected from the implementation of the plan.
- A final report on the findings.
Education And Experience
- Currently enrolled in a Master's program in Public Health or equivalent.
- Knowledge and experience in Knowledge Translation and Implementation Science is an asset.
- Knowledge and experience with qualitative data analysis methods.
- Strong oral and written communication and collaboration skills.
