The ULC Emergency Lighting Technician is responsible for inspecting, testing, servicing, and maintaining emergency lighting systems in compliance with ULC (Underwriters Laboratories of Canada) standards, local fire codes, and safety regulations. The technician ensures all emergency lighting equipment is operational, code-compliant, and documented accurately for customer records and regulatory audits
Key Responsibilities
- Perform inspections & functional tests of emergency lighting systems in accordance with NFPA codes
- Inspect, Service, repair, and replace batteries, lamps, ballasts, and other emergency lighting components.
- Maintain accurate inspection reports and service documentation.
- Identify emergency lighting deficiencies
- Respond to service calls and emergency lighting failures.
- Ensure all work is carried out safely and in compliance with company policies, fire code, and occupational health and safety regulations.
- Communicate effectively with Technician Manager and internal service coordinators.
- Stay up to date with NFPA codes
- Assist with installation of new emergency lighting systems where required.
```Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical training an asset).
- Experience working with low-voltage electrical systems, batteries, and lighting equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and inspection procedures.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
- Field-based role with travel to customer sites
- Exposure to commercial, industrial, and residential environments.
- May require evening or weekend work during service calls or inspections.
- Moderate physical work including lifting, climbing ladders, and extended periods of standing
Certifications (Preferred/Required)
- NFPA Certifications or willingness to obtain.
- WHMIS, Fall Protection, and other safety training certifications.
