Working as part of the Mechanical Engineering and project teams the Mechanical Engineering Technologist will provide design detailing of equipment or sub-systems to meet design specifications in accordance with customer requirements and internal company processes and procedures.

Candidates must be eligible to obtain the relevant security clearance required for the role, due to the nature of the programmes we deliver for our customers.

Job Description

Job Description:

· Modeling and detail drawing of mechanical parts, assemblies using Solidworks

· Implementation of design changes as part of the engineering change order process (ECO)

· Tolerance analysis based on design requirements, part creation process capability, inspection processes, cost, etc., using standard tolerancing and GD&T

· Select part material type based upon design requirements, environmental constraints, etc

· Select mounting and fastening hardware based upon design requirements, cost, etc.

· Track and maintain complete drawing package and BOM configuration

· Participate in mechanical assembly of prototypes associated with new designs

· Interface effectively with personnel at all levels within the company

· Project Support where required

· Provide activity reports as required

· Participating in continuous improvement process for an effective engineering process.

Required Qualifications:

· years of experience of CAD design in a defence or aerospace engineering/manufacturing industry

· Fully conversant with 3D solid modelling software (SolidWorks)

· Possess working knowledge of standard tolerancing well as GD&T

· Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology 

· Ability to obtain and maintain Controlled Goods Program and appropriate security clearance with the Public Services and Procurement Canada's Contract Security Program

Desired Skills:

· Fully conversant with electro-mechanical assembly design

· Able to generate assembly and piece part drawings for sub-system designs

· Ability to work independently, supporting design documentation maintenance from conceptual to production status

· Familiar with ASME Y14 standards

· Experience with 3D Printing

· Experience working with hand tools and mechanical fabrication and assembly

· Able to select part material type based upon design requirements, environmental constraints

· Knowledge of underwater applications, including design for corrosion, and general marine environments

· Knowledge of metalworking processes, e.g., stamping, casting, machining

· knowledge of plastics part creation processes, e.g., molding, extrusion

· Basic knowledge of PWB manufacturing processes

· Excellent time management and communication skills

· Familiarity with PDM systems

Typically, a Bachelor Degree (or equivalent) and 0+ years of experience; or an Associate Degree (or equivalent) and 2+ years experience using CAD software.

May be required to maintain security clearance.
