Job Description
EIS (Edmonton Integrated Services Ltd.) is seeking a Supportive Living Roommate (Support Home Operator/SHO) with demonstrated experience working directly with adults with developmental disabilities who can provide a safe, secure, and highly supervised home environment with an inclusive, caring, and supportive friend/roommate experience.
The successful candidate will be supporting an individual with complex behavioural needs who requires continuous supervision and cannot be left alone. If you are a caring, reliable, and highly attentive individual with the qualifications outlined below, we would love to hear from you.
As a Supportive Living Roommate, you will receive a flat monthly payment for care and support while making a meaningful, positive difference in an individual's life.
EIS is a private agency committed to the safety, wellbeing, and inclusion of Individuals with Developmental Disabilities. Our agency develops and offers a variety of services and programs including Independent and Supported Living, Residential, and Community Access and Inclusion Programs.
About the Supportive Living Program
The focus of this program is to provide an alternative for Individuals to live in an environment that supports their development and growth within a homelike atmosphere. Individuals are provided with a place to live—usually within a supportive home—and the necessary supports to thrive both within the setting and the broader community.
The Supportive Roommate provides developmental supports and guidance in a less "family-like" setting and more of a "roommate or companion" model. Supports are designed to promote independence and community inclusion while ensuring safety, consistency, and emotional regulation.
Responsibilities
- Provide care and support both within your home and in the community for an adult with developmental disabilities, including behavioural and mental health support.
- Maintain continuous supervision and availability, as required by the individual's support plan.
- Accompany the individual to appointments, meetings, and daily activities.
- Actively participate as a member of the individual's interdisciplinary support team.
- Facilitate meaningful community involvement and integration into the household.
- Maintain thorough and accurate documentation as required.
Program-Specific Home & Availability Requirements
- The support model for this individual requires a female Support Home Operator, based on individualized care, safety, and support needs.
- The home must be free of children and pets, to ensure a stable, low-stimulation environment aligned with the individual's behavioural support plan.
- The individual has no mobility concerns; therefore, there are no additional requirements related to home layout or bedroom location.
- Open availability is required, as the individual cannot be left alone.
Requirements
- We are currently seeking Support Homes located in Edmonton and surrounding areas, including Sherwood Park, St. Albert, and Fort Saskatchewan.
- Demonstrated experience supporting individuals with complex behavioural needs.
- Proven experience working directly with adults with developmental disabilities, particularly those with mental and emotional health needs.
- Background in disability support services, including mental health support.
- Relevant education and/or training; First Aid and Abuse Protocol certification strongly preferred.
- Reliable, well-maintained personal vehicle with a valid driver's license and $2 million liability insurance coverage.
- Ability and willingness to obtain commercial liability insurance.
- Current Police Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Persons Sector Check.
Each one of us at EIS—from our dedicated frontline staff through to senior and executive leadership—shares the same vision:
A Community of Choice, Safety, Rights, Diversity, and Inclusion.
Job Type: Contract
Application question(s):
- Are you located in or near the Capilano area of Edmonton?
