ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE
Under the direction of the Vice President, People, the Senior Labour Relations Manager delivers proactive labour relations support, problem-solving, and strategic advice to property-level teams on labour relations and human resource matters. The role supports the organization's goal of being an exemplary employer and provider of quality care and service, while achieving a reasonable return on investment for shareholders. The Manager also champions company culture and ensures organizational values are communicated and understood at all levels.

Background/Qualifications

  • University degree in a related field.
  • Minimum three years' experience in labour relations and human resources in a mid- to large-sized company, preferably in healthcare or hospitality.
  • Proven experience leading and conducting labour negotiations.
  • Experience working with multiple unions and across various provinces is an asset.
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills, with demonstrated capacity to influence and earn respect.
  • Certified Human Resources Professional or equivalent designation preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle; travel required.

Key Responsibilities
Labour Negotiations & Employee Relations

  • Lead collective bargaining and manage labour issues across all regions.
  • Achieve settlements within mandate and with a mind to the long-term success of the business.
  • Advise on and interpret collective agreements and company policies.
  • Handle final step grievances, rights arbitrations, and mediation processes.
  • Organize and attend interest and rights arbitration as needed.

Compliance & Legal

  • Monitor and advise on legislative matters, ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety, Workers Safety and Insurance, Human Rights, Accessibility, and Employment Standards Acts.
  • Conduct residence audits and provide actionable reports and recommendations.

Leadership & Development

  • Oversee and mentor People Generalists, providing guidance and career development.
  • Responsible for the management of direct reports
  • Conduct performance reviews and coach for improvement.
  • Provide training in union/management relations and disciplinary processes.
  • Supports the optimization of human capital including development and succession planning for leadership roles at the residences.

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Review and approve offers of employment for management positions at the residences.
  • Assist with corporate office hiring and management recruitment.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of orientation and training programs

Strategic Analysis & Quality Improvement

  • Analyze wage trends and settlement patterns in the retirement home industry, providing recommendations.
  • Participate in the Verve Quality Improvement (VQI) Program.

Culture, Values & Inclusivity

  • Foster a culture of integrity, collaboration, empathy, and excellence.
