Senior CAD Geostructural Draftsperson

Groundsight Engineers Ltd. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior CAD Geostructural Draftsperson to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a background in geostructural design and extensive experience with 2D/3D design CAD software. This role consists of supporting the geostructural engineers with creating CAD drawings on a wide variety of unique construction projects.

You will be Groundsight's first full time Draftsperson. Our growing business has led to requiring a dedicated employee to take ownership of our valuable projects.

The Role

You will be responsible for the creation and modification of complex geotechnical and structural designs using 2D/3D CAD software. Your expertise will be instrumental in delivering innovative and practical solutions for a wide range of projects.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Drafting and Design Support:

• Prepare and review complex 2D and 3D drawings using CAD/BIM software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit).
• Translate engineering designs, calculations, and sketches into detailed construction drawings.
• Coordinate drawings with other disciplines to identify and resolve conflicts.
• Review shop drawings, RFIs, and as-built drawings as required.
• Support engineers during design development, tender, and construction phases.

Drafting Standards, Tools, and Workflows:

• Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide drafting standards, templates, and CAD manuals.
• Create and manage standard drawing details, title blocks, layers, line styles, symbols, and annotation styles.
• Develop and maintain CAD automation tools, scripts, and libraries to improve efficiency and consistency.
• Manage CAD/BIM file structures, naming conventions, and document control processes.
• Evaluate and implement new drafting software, plugins, and workflows as appropriate.
• Ensure consistent application of drafting standards across all projects.

Leadership and Mentorship as we expand:

• Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior and intermediate drafters.
• Review and QA/QC drawings produced by others to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Assist in workload planning and task assignment for drafting resources.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of drafting practices and internal processes.

Qualifications and Skills

• Diploma or degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Architecture, or a related field, with a minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience in drafting and design.
• Experience in civil, structural, geotechnical, or construction-related projects is an asset.
• Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Infraworks and/or equivalent.
• Knowledge of other industry specific specialized software is an asset. (e.g. Microstation)
• Ability to visualize 2D drawing work in a 3D environment.
• Ability to understand, interpret and translate architectural, structural, surveying, civil and utilities drawing details contained within in 2D drawings and 3D Revit models.
• Experience developing and maintaining CAD standards, templates, and libraries.
• Familiarity with CAD automation (e.g., LISP, Dynamo, scripts, or macros) is an asset.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in design work.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
