Trillium Health Partners (THP) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Physician Assistant (PAs) to join the Division of Gastroenterology at our Credit Valley hospital site. The successful candidates will work under the supervision of a gastroenterologist, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with a range of gastrointestinal conditions, in the inpatient setting. Standard working hours of 8am to 4pm, Monday through Friday (Subject to change based on patient care needs).
- The Physician Assistant is a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program and is certified by the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada. New graduates of the PA program are encouraged to apply.
- To work on the Gastroenterology inpatient service at either the Credit Valley Hospital or Mississauga Hospital locations of THP. The PA will be assigned to one site and will work closely with the Gastroenterologists supporting patient care under gastroenterology MRP service and consulting service. The PA will work under the direct supervision of the on-call GI physician.
- This position reports to the Director, Endoscopy program and to the Head of the Division of Gastroenterology for medical performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performing comprehensive and problem-focused histories, physical examinations, and assessment of laboratory and diagnostic studies in the electronic medical records (EMR).
- Dictation of consultation notes, progress notes and discharge summaries.
- Conducting daily hospital rounds, evaluating patients and assisting with discharge planning.
- Assist with follow-up care, patient education, and clinical documentation.
- Communicating and updating patient and family members.
- Upon completion of formal and informal education and documented competency, ordering tests, imaging and prescribing/ordering specific medications but not narcotics, as delegated by the supervising Gastroenterologist.
- Performing minor procedures on the units after a skills assessment and satisfactory performance evaluation (inserting/removing nasogastric tubes, changing Mickey feeding tubes, paracentesis, etc.). These procedures will be initiated under a direct order or medical directive by a supervising Gastroenterologist.
- Working collaboratively with an inter-professional team, including but not limited to surgeons, interventional radiology, residents/interns/medical students, nurse practitioners, nurses, allied health professionals, and laboratory personnel to ensure continuity of care.
- Participate in team rounds and contribute to case discussions.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Graduation from a recognized Physician Assistant program
- Certification through the Canadian Physician Assistant Certification Council (PACCC)
- Eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) or current CPSO recognized licensure
- Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and documentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative care team
Preferred:
- Prior clinical experience in gastroenterology or internal medicine
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems (EPIC)
- Comfortable performing minor procedures (e.g., NG tube insertion/removal, paracentesis, Mickey feeding tube changes)
