The Opportunity:

The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for a permanent full-time Journeyperson Powerline Technician. This is skilled work at the journeyman level in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission lines.

As our preferred candidate, you will have:

  • Possession of a Journeyperson Powerline Technician certificate with Red Seal
  • Class 3 Drivers License with Q Endorsement
  • Knowledge of approved methods, materials and tools used in high tension electric distribution and transmission line construction and maintenance work.
  • Some knowledge of the principles of electric theory as applied to electric distribution and transmission systems.
  • Knowledge of first aid including artificial respiration.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to climb poles and work with high tension wires, exercising proper safety precautions.
  • Skill in the use of line tools and testing equipment.
  • Good physical condition and health, sufficient physical strength and agility to perform heavy manual and climbing tasks under adverse weather conditions.

Remuneration:

$61.90 to $64.43 per hour

Hours of Work:

80 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday. Occasional overtime with some evening and weekend work may be required at times.
