The Part-Time Maintenance Worker plays a key role in ensuring our facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained. This hands-on position is responsible for day-to-day cleaning, groundskeeping, and light maintenance repairs across shelter, housing, and office locations. The ideal candidate is reliable, takes pride in their work, and understands the importance of creating dignified, well-cared-for spaces for vulnerable populations.
Responsibilities
Cleaning & Housekeeping
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and wash floors in common areas and hallways
- Clean bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, and shared spaces
- Empty garbage and recycling and ensure proper disposal
- Restock supplies such as soap, paper products, and cleaning materials
General Maintenance
- Perform light repairs (e.g., changing lightbulbs, tightening fixtures, minor patchwork)
- Report any major repair needs or safety concerns to supervisors promptly
Groundskeeping & Seasonal Work
- Shovel snow and apply salt to walkways and entrances during winter
- Mow grass, trim shrubs, and maintain outdoor areas in warmer months
- Keep entrances, sidewalks, and outdoor areas free from debris and hazards
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including use of cleaning chemicals and equipment
- Maintain storage areas for tools and supplies in a clean and organized manner
- Respect resident privacy and confidentiality at all times
Education and Training
- Previous experience in maintenance, janitorial work, or groundskeeping an asset
Knowledge & experience
Required experience:
- Basic knowledge of cleaning practices and use of tools/equipment
Preferred experience:
- Knowledge of issues related to poverty, homelessness, and housing.
Core competencies
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Compassionate and respectful attitude toward individuals experiencing homelessness
Physical Requirements
- Standing for long hours, with tasks requiring bending, lifting, working outdoors
- Ability to lift approximately 20 lbs.
Working conditions
- Must have access to a reliable and adequately insured vehicle, and a valid driver's license.
- Clear Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check PRIOR to Employment.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $24.00-$25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 24 per week
