Simplify Energy Consultants Ltd. is seeking a full-time, permanent Building Performance Consultant to join our efficient and highly skilled team of Building & Energy Consultants. This position is for those who love to get their hands in the dirt and deliver high-quality and technically accurate energy efficiency & building projects. A strong background in energy auditing, energy modelling, building science, green building certifications, or energy & GHG analysis is
a requirement, as is the ambition to cultivate elite-level building expertise.

The successful candidate will join a team of growing and passionate building professionals and will receive direct mentorship from company Principals, being actively trained and mentored to deliver the highest quality technical deliverables for our clientele. Our team is focused on delivering an outcome-based, hands-on approach to building consulting that ensures paramount quality and meaningful impact on each project, with an unrivalled focus on the building owner.

The Job:

The job is highly technical and will spend most of their time working on ASHRAE Level 2 & 3 energy audits, GHG reduction feasibility studies, energy models, green building certifications, and custom energy & building projects.

Key Responsibilities & Daily Tasks:

  • Lead & project manage energy efficiency & building consulting projects
  • Delivery of ASHRAE Level 2 & 3 energy audits, including site assessments, building takeoffs, ECM identification, energy modelling, and reporting
  • Energy modelling on RETScreen Expert, IES VE, and other energy modelling tools
  • Assess & analyze technologies and develop Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs)
  • Collaborate with Simplify Energy team to support existing and ongoing projects with high quality technical support
  • Project costing and working with industry to develop accurate pricing on ECMs
  • Work with client staff, project partners, and property/operations team to ensure continuity and effective communication on each project
  • Review construction documents and specifications

Qualifications:

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Proven experience (2-5 years) providing technical delivery of ASHRAE Level energy audits, energy models, building assessments, and GHG reduction feasibility studies
  • RETScreen Expert energy modelling experience is required
  • IES VE energy modelling experience in an asset
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, lighting systems, building envelope, building control systems, energy conservation measures, and building science.
  • Hands-on field experience in energy auditing and building assessments
  • Experience in completing and executing complex energy & financial calculations
  • Experience with green building certifications such as BOMA Best and LEED

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of building science and its relationship with energy use
  • Utility analysis and energy calculations
  • Understanding and ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Financial & statistical analysis
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, with a focus on Excel and Word
  • Advanced Excel skills are a major plus
  • Creative problem solving & project execution strategy
  • Exceptional time management and decision-making skills
  • Ability to train a team of energy professionals and provide oversight & review for technical deliverables
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to communicate effectively with clients

Education & Certifications:

  • A degree in engineering or a technologist diploma is required.
  • P. Eng., E.I.T. or C.E.T. is preferred.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM or EMIT), LEED Green Associate, Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) is preferred.
  • Graduates from other energy & sustainability-focused programs who can display a strong understanding of building science & engineering systems will be considered.

The Details:

Position:
Building performance consultant- energy focused (engineer or technologist)

Salary:
Between $70,000.00-$95,000.00, depending on experience levels and levels of seniority/readiness

Vacation:
Paid vacation time provided

Hours:
40 hours per week, flexible schedule

Location:
Hybrid in Edmonton (requirement to work partially in office, with opportunity to set up at home)
