 JOB SUMMARY:

The Indigenous Programming Facilitator leads in the research, development, implementation and assessment of workshops, trainings and educational campaigns designed to promote broader awareness of Indigenous history, ways of knowing and present-day experiences to improve cultural capacity and encourage knowledge sharing.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Training, Development and Course Support:
  •  In partnership with staff and faculty colleagues, leads in the research, planning, program development, facilitation, assessment and continuous improvement of Indigenous focused training opportunities for students, staff and faculty
  • Assists students who are looking to incorporate Indigenous content and knowledge into academic assignments by providing information, resources, and referrals as appropriate in collaboration/ consultation with the Indigenous and Cultural Advisor
  • Leads in the identification and evaluation of external training and development programs and makes recommendations to HR and the TLC to support staff and faculty development
  • Leads in the process of identifying and implementing culturally appropriate assessment plans to guide program improvements
  • Represents Indigenous Education and Cultural Services on the Indigenous Curriculum Consultation Sub-Committee to review curriculum proposals, provide culturally relevant feedback and connect faculty members and curriculum committees with appropriate Elders, Knowledge Keepers and/or Indigenous Scholars as necessary
Campaign Development and Co-ordination:
  • In collaboration with campus partners, identifies and recommends education and awareness campaigns to promote campus-wide engagement in learning and development that promotes awareness of Indigenous histories, ways of knowing and present day experiences
  • Leads campus partners in the development of project plans including the identification of goals and outcomes and the development of project budgets and timelines
  • Co-ordinates logistical requirements including booking space, A/V, catering, connecting with external vendors and the completion of event forms
  • Collaborates with the Planning and Communications team to co-create plans to promote education and awareness efforts
Administration:
  • Participates as an active member on institutional committees that support the strategic involvement of Indigenous peoples in institutional decision making and university reconciliation efforts
  •  Assists the Director and other administrative units with the development of strategic and operational plans; and narrative and financial reports for both internal and external purposes

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:

  •  Completion of a university program consisting of 4 academic years
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a professional or graduate degree in education or a certificate in adult learning or instructional design
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered for this role
Experience:
  •  Lived experience as an Indigenous person (First Nations, Métis, Inuit)
  • Experience working in an Indigenous community/ organization
  • 3 to 5 years of demonstrated experience developing, delivering and assessing learning and development programs for adult learners
  • Experience leading, planning and facilitating groups
  • Project management experience
Knowledge:
  •  Knowledge of Indigenous peoples, cultural perspectives, world views and community contexts
  • Knowledge of group dynamics
  • Conversant in student and adult learning and development theories and their implications on program design and delivery
  • Knowledge of Indigenous pedagogical approaches for learning, inclusive pedagogy and universal design for learning

Skills:
  •  Demonstrated skills in large-scale events and programs planning and co-ordination
  • Ability to apply and evaluate literature, research, institutional data, theoretical frameworks and traditional knowledge to develop programs
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills including collaboration and conflict management to partner wit external stakeholders and staff at all levels of the organization
  • Exceptional time management, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the Google Suite of business tools
