Senior Advisor, Strategic Alignment - Hybrid

The Opportunity

The Senior Advisor, Strategic Alignment plays a pivotal role in ensuring the Alberta Energy Regulator's (AER) strategy is clearly defined to prioritize enterprise efforts, while embedding a culture of strategic alignment and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will be a resilient and adaptable advisor with the ability to influence various stakeholders, manage complexity, and deliver results.

Working closely with the Board of Directors, Executive Leadership Team (ELT), and branch leadership, the Senior Advisor will lead the development, execution and oversight of a strategic plan, ensuring effective governance, measurement, reporting, and operational integration.

The role will support leaders in operational planning, ensuring that strategic priorities are embedded across the organization. The Senior Advisor will also be responsible for synthesizing complex data and insights, assessing emerging trends and risks in energy development, and integrating strategic outcomes and risk appetite to inform strategic decision-making.

We are recruiting for 2 positions, one full-time permanent and one 12 month limited term position. Please indicate in your cover letter your preference and if you are willing to consider both opportunities.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and AER senior leadership to develop, continuously refine, and execute long-term strategic plans that align with the AER's mandate, strategic outcomes, and risk appetite.
  • Lead the development and use of performance metrics to track progress, measure outcomes, and support data informed strategic decision-making.
  • Support strategic implementation planning and prioritization across AER business areas to ensure alignment of organizational priorities and risk appetite.
  • Gather and analyze strategic information to support strategic planning through research, internal collaboration, and the formation of strong networks with external stakeholders.

What we're looking for in you:

  • Advanced education in Economics, Public Policy, or Business Administration.
  • 10-12 years of related strategic development experience.
  • Highly proficient in designing, leading, and facilitating discussions with executive leaders.
  • Highly skilled communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing complex data to enable decision making with consideration for risk and performance outcomes.
