About Us

Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation provides vital funding to enable the best possible patient care. We inspire and motivate gifts that fund medical equipment and patient amenities, innovative research initiatives, essential redevelopment of clinical care spaces, and the education and training of health care providers.

As a registered charitable organization, we proudly support patients and families across south-central Ontario, and from outside the region, who receive specialized care at Hamilton Health Sciences including Hamilton General Hospital, Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, McMaster Children's Hospital, and St. Peter's Hospital. The associated programs at the Regional Rehabilitation Centre, McMaster University Medical Centre and Ron Joyce Children's Health Centre are also included.

Position Description

The Board of Directors of Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation (HHSF) holds the fundamental responsibility of providing oversight of the organization's fulfillment of its Mission, and service to

Foundation donors.

It is a fundraising Board and to this end, the Board sets direction for the organization, provides financial oversight, establishes policies and supports HHSF to ensure it has adequate resources to carry out its mission.

HHSF is governed by a comprehensive set of by-laws, which are approved by the Board of Directors for effective governance and compliance with relevant law.

Board members may also serve on designated Board committees, including:

  • Audit & Risk Committee
  • Finance & Investment Committee
  • Governance & Nominating Committee
  • Fundraising Committee

Key responsibilities

  • Commit to the Board Covenant and relevant Committee Terms of Reference
  • Provide considered input into Board and Committee decisions -  taking into account the perspectives of all stakeholders served by the Foundation
  • Serve as an advocate and ambassador for HHSF and embrace its Mission, Vision, and Values
  • Comply with the Conflict of Interest Policy
