Reporting to the SVP, Transaction Banking, the VP, Transaction Banking Sales provides strategic direction and national leadership in support of the development of sales strategies that promote revenue growth and positive, profitable relationships for CIBC across the Commercial Bank and its various client segments. The VP, Transaction Banking provides direction to the Transaction Banking Sales team, including both Cash Management and Trade Sales franchises, and will lead the business through a transformational change, drive overall client growth and revenue growth, adhere to the business' risk management objectives, and deepen CIBC's relationships with existing clients.

What You'll be Doing

Business Development

  • Develop and implement strategies to drive profitable growth, customer acquisition, and portfolio expansion for Transaction Banking products and services.

  • Source new business, strengthen existing client relationships, and maximize fee revenues and client profitability within Cash Management and Trade.

  • Collaborate with the Transaction Banking Leadership Team to set and achieve revenue, growth, and regional targets.

  • Lead short- and medium-term sales strategies for commercial segments to meet annual objectives.

  • Coordinate with key partners to ensure a unified business development approach in local markets.

  • Identify market opportunities, develop regional plans, and proactively manage risks and opportunities.

  • Review and participate in sales strategies and processes for high-value opportunities, including nonstandard pricing and legal agreements.

  • Stay current on Transaction Banking products, policies, industry trends, and competitor offerings.

  • Track and analyze sales performance, share best practices, and take corrective actions to achieve targets.

  • Conduct annual client portfolio reviews to optimize profitability and cross-sell opportunities.

  • Oversee or manage the origination, structuring, and negotiation of cash management and trade deals.

  • Drive cross-sell initiatives and meet annual targets through effective sales team management and disciplined sales processes.

  • Set and monitor team KPIs, pipeline, prospect lists, and growth metrics (deposits, revenue, NII, fees, FX).

  • Ensure sales teams are trained on all Cash Management and Trade solutions.

  • Manage internal and external client relationships, ensuring proactive inclusion in sales opportunities.

  • Enhance the Bank's market presence through relationship-building, senior management engagement, and representation at industry and community events.

  • Maximize sales productivity by monitoring business development plans and results.

  • Enhance the Bank's market presence by identifying and building relationships with key business contacts and centres of influence, conducting senior management calls, and representing the Bank at industry and community events.

Client Management

  • Advocate for client priorities in product development to maximize revenue and service quality.

  • Ensure Cash Management and Trade solutions align with client needs and business objectives.

  • Drive sales and service improvements in partnership with Relationship Managers and internal teams.

  • Support ongoing professional development for self and staff to stay current with industry trends and standards.

  • Oversee client onboarding and daily banking needs with Client Sales Support (CSS).

  • Participate in deal reviews and pricing committees.

  • Serve as the Voice of the Customer with internal stakeholders across product, strategy, risk, and compliance.

Leadership

  • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of senior leaders in setting business goals and ensuring individual and business goals are achieved and/or exceeded. This includes attracting, aligning, motivating, and retaining a team with the competencies to meet present and future business goals.

  • Build team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities such as job shadowing, special projects, and training.

  • Assign work with clear and appropriate context to align roles with business unit and CIBC goals

  • Manage performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles to performance and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities.

  • Advanced consultative selling and sales management skills; adept at identifying cash management opportunities.

  • Expert understanding of Treasury, Cash Management, and Trade functions in large organizations.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead geographically dispersed teams and drive consultative solutions for clients.

  • Strong grasp of business and financial concepts, including balance sheet management and optimization.

  • Working knowledge of credit and risk management related to cash management products.
