Senior Research Assistants are normally graduate students, or University of Winnipeg undergraduate students, employed to assist in the execution and evaluation of research projects in their area of study. The positions may oversee Research Assistants in areas such as the use of proper techniques, analysis, and documentation.

Senior Research Assistants work under the general supervision or direction of more senior researchers or faculty members, and are expected to exercise judgment in prioritizing, planning and organizing their own work within defined parameters.

Position Overview:

Senior research assistant (SRA) is needed to assist in development of scholarly publications related to " Land as a Teacher'. SRA will undertake systematic literature review, scholarly editing and course/ publication related activities focusing on Indigenous food systems and land-based learning.

Duties:

  • Excellent independent research writing and scholarly content editing skills including creating Table of content and referencing styles in Word.
  • Assist in communication and coordination with Long Plain Firs Nations and other Indigenous partners.
  • Assist in developing sections of publications based on primary and secondary research.
  • Ability to compile and use literature on land -based teaching, Indigenous food systems, Three-eyed seeing including course materials, books, and internet.
  • Design visually appealing content based on synthesis of course materials.
  • Assist in developing a course on Indigenous food Innovation.

Qualifications:

  • Indigenous studies Honors or Masters of Indigenous Governance or related field (master's in development Practice), PhD students are preferred.
  • Students with an excellent comprehension, research and analytical skills including researching, organizing and editing research papers and documents.
  • Experience with conducting independent scholarly literature search, review and copy editing.
  • Good knowledge of small office works and familiarity with endnote or other library referencing system to prepare bibliography.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and familiarity with small office jobs.
  • Must have good knowledge, understanding and Interest in Indigenous food systems, planetary health and sustainability topics either through courses, and research project involvement or community experience.
  • Must have completed either IS-3201 or IS-3012 or IS-4026 or similar course at University of Winnipeg/ Canadian Post secondary institution with at least A-.
  • Must be able to drive to Rural and Indigenous communities.

Condition(s) of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

The period of work will be from January 12, April 30, 2026, and the estimated total hours of work will be 0-100 hours.
