The Facilities Team Lead receives direction from the Director of Facilities and is responsible for the daily maintenance requirements for The Mustard Seed's buildings. As a Facilities Maintenance Worker Team Lead, you will join a team dedicated to delivering excellent service to staff, community participants, and residents while fostering hope, providing respectful care, and nurturing positive change in the lives of guests and residents.

Salary Range: $50,000 – $54,000 per year

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform daily maintenance of The Mustard Seed's facilities to ensure functionality and safety.
  • Oversee the procurement of cleaning supplies and maintenance parts.
  • Helping in budgeting
  • Assist in supervising the work of both in-house and temporary labor staff, ensuring strict adherence to all safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Lead the maintenance crew in maintenance, repairs, disassembly/assembly of equipment and supporting external contractors as needed.
  • Respond promptly to all emergency calls, including after-hours incidents.
  • Clean and maintain designated areas, including but not limited to offices, restrooms, and common spaces, by performing routine tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming, following established cleaning procedures.
  • Clean windows, glass surfaces, and mirrors.
  • Emptying trash receptacles and replacing liners and restocking of supplies in restrooms and breakrooms.
  • Apply basic carpentry skills for renovations and minor construction projects.
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, community participants, and residents to maintain a humble, selfless, and respectful environment.
  • Work with staff, volunteers, community participants and residents.
  • Participate in all staff training (e.g. First Aid, Naloxone, Non-violence, etc.) and attend all meetings with your supervisor, staff meetings and health and safety meetings.
  • Conduct inspections of Mustard Seed properties to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • The position is fast paced and requires frequent manual labor, conflict resolution, and strong organizational skills.
  • Steel-toe shoes are mandatory, and protective footwear must always be worn, regardless of whether a hazard is present.
  • Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors, onsite and offsite, depending on the needs of the facilities department.
  • This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week, with frequent reaching, walking, standing, and lifting.
  • Must be available to work during the day, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Mental effort: Moderate, with periods of high-volume workload.
  • A clear Driver's Abstract is for employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • A minimum of 2+ years building maintenance experience.
  • Ability to lift and move at least 50 lbs.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and OH&S standards is an asset.
  • Attention to detail, ability to follow instructions and taking care to perform tasks with excellence.
  • Good communication skills, showing kindness, patience and empathy towards colleagues, volunteers, clients, and building occupants.
  • Reliable and dependable work ethic, treating others and their property with care and consideration.
  • Organized, self-directed, proactive and accountable with the ability to work well with team members.
  • Willingness to perform tasks that may seem menial or unimportant.
  • A passion to be part of ending homelessness in British Columbia.

 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

This position requires the use of a company vehicle. Candidate must have and maintain valid driver's licence and will need to consent to a driver's abstract request.
