ROLE

The Health Records, Correspondence; reviews requests for personal health information and responds to these in a timely manner.  They are responsible for participating in the development/maintenance of systems and processes and assisting other staff related to access, disclosure, retention, storage and destruction of personal health information issues.  

REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)

• Grade 12 Education
• Medical Office Certificate/Two Year Health Records/Information Management or related Program

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)

• Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of privacy legislation and legislation related to the retention of personal health information
• Knowledgeable in mainframe and personal computer applications
• Ability to handle confidential information with tact and diplomacy
• Superior organizational skills
• Able to prioritize workload to ensure deadlines are met
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to multitask
• Ability to work with other members of the healthcare team, external agencies and the public
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of chart documentation practices
• Excellent problem solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as a team player
• Able to meet the physical demands of the position

DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION

• Related work experience in a similar position preferred
• One year of office experience in a Health Records department preferred.
• Minimum one year of Meditech experience preferred
