We are seeking a highly skilled
Data Streaming Engineer
with deep expertise in
Apache Kafka, Linux systems, and Kubernetes
to join a leading communications company. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building and optimizing
real-time data streaming solutions
that are scalable, secure, and production-ready. Work closely with infrastructure and development teams to design streaming architectures, enable robust use cases, and ensure high availability and performance across distributed systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage Apache Kafka clusters in development, testing, and production environments.
  • Optimize Kafka performance, reliability, and scalability for high-throughput pipelines.
  • Integrate Kafka with tools such as Kafka Connect, Schema Registry, MirrorMaker, and Kafka Streams.
  • Deploy and operate Kafka on Kubernetes using Helm, Operators, or custom manifests.
  • Manage and troubleshoot Linux systems supporting Kafka.
  • Implement observability and alerting with Prometheus, Grafana, and Fluent Bit.
  • Collaborate with teams to build end-to-end data pipelines for real-time integration and event-driven microservices.

Requirements

  • Must currently be based within a 50-mile radius around Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience administering and supporting Apache Kafka in production.
  • Solid experience with Kubernetes in production environments.
  • Strong Linux system administration skills.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (Bash, Python, Ansible).

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with MirrorMaker 2 for cross-cluster replication and disaster recovery design.
  • Experience hardening Kafka/Kubernetes for security and compliance.
  • Experience with GitOps tooling such as Argo CD or Flux.
  • Experience building event-driven microservices consuming/producing Kafka topics.
