JOB OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Division Manager, the Junior/Intermediate Utility Locator is responsible for completing buried facility locates (including electrical cables, water lines, sewer lines, steam lines, gas lines, and telecommunications infrastructure). This role requires accurate documentation and mapping of buried facilities while strictly adhering to company and client safety protocols and procedures.

This position is based in Calgary and surrounding areas .

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interpret and analyze site plans, area maps, and blueprints to accurately determine the location of underground utilities.
  • Utilize maps, blueprints, computer databases, and locating equipment to identify conduits and update records based on field findings.
  • Mark and document buried utility locations using line-locating equipment to ensure precise utility detection.
  • Produce clear, accurate documentation, sketches, measurements, and concise field notes.
  • Participate in all required safety meetings, training sessions, and health & safety programs.
  • Operate company vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Maintain, clean, and store locating equipment to ensure it remains in good working condition.
  • Strictly follow all health and safety protocols, including completion of daily safety reports and forms.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • 1–2 years of underground utility/facility locating experience (considered an asset).
  • High school diploma.
  • UALL, TALL, PALL, and/or Locating 101 certification (asset).
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean 5-year abstract.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, drawings, and plans.
  • CSTS, First Aid, and H2S Alive certifications (asset).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and computer skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and safety.
  • Ability to remain composed in stressful situations.
  • Strong work ethic and proven reliability.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to learn, take direction, and accept coaching and feedback.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • This is a field-based position requiring year-round outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • The successful candidate must be physically fit and comfortable working in all seasons.

WORK ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT

Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Canada on a permanent basis at the time of application.
