Department: Quality & Food Safety
Profile Summary:
The Quality Technician is responsible for ensuring the quality of products via testing and inspection to meet and/or exceed qualitative and quantitative attributes including sensory, consistency, legality and safety of finished product. This position will work closely with many different departments within the organization including Commodities, Purchasing, Production, Maintenance, Health & Safety and Sales & Marketing. This position is on the Night Shift, but requires flexibility to cover weekends and other shifts when required.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Conduct regular quality checks on finished goods (in R&G and Single Serve formats) and enter results into the database
- Calibrate and maintain instruments and equipment used for testing purposes
- Maintain product quality and food safety program to support BRC, HACCP, FSQM, GMP etc.
- Initiate product holds when necessary, conduct testing and determine disposition for holds
- Prepare samples for lab and sensory testing
- Participate and assist in audits
- Update and maintain documentation control
- Investigate in customer complaints, conduct analysis and follow-ups as required
- Conduct validation reports and risk assessments
- Facilitate and conduct quality training for staff
- Maintain health and safety program practices including safe lifting, lock-out/tag-out, incident prevention and personal safety practices.
- Other Quality tech duties as required
- Understand, apply and actively participate in maintaining product quality and food safety program practices including BRC, HACCP, QA / QC, GMP, Sanitation and good hygiene practices.
- Understand, apply and actively participate in maintaining health and safety program practices
Ideal Qualifications:
- Food Science Diploma/degree or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years work experience in food manufacturing industry
- Well-developed sensory skills
- Very detail oriented and can maintain a high level of accuracy
- Effective decision-making and judgement
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Strict adherence to GMP, Food Safety and personal hygiene policies
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills required, including presentation skills
- Ability to analyze data used in all trending reports
- Proficient in the use of computer technology including standard software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to quickly and efficiently learn new systems and software in order to automate and analyse information
