Role Description

This is a contract-based, remote role for a Senior Optical Network Engineer specializing in Ciena 6500 RLS. The primary responsibilities include network design, network engineering, troubleshooting, and ensuring security for complex optical networks. You will oversee the integration, configuration, testing, and optimization of Ciena 6500 RLS solutions to meet client operational goals. Additionally, you will collaborate on network migration projects and resolve technical challenges efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Network Design & Engineering

• Design and validate
  Ciena 6500 RLS based network
• Support network architecture decisions, capacity planning, and migration strategies
• Perform requirements analysis
  to translate business and technical needs into executable designs

Migration, Cutover & Integration

• Lead and support
  hot cut span rolls and circuit migrations
• Plan and execute live network cutovers with minimal customer impact
• Provide design, integration, and migration support across multi-phase deployments
• Coordinate with NOC, field teams, and project stakeholders during maintenance windows

MOP Development & Execution

• Create detailed
  Methods of Procedure (MOPs)
  and rollback plans
• Execute MOPs during scheduled maintenance windows, all work remotely
• Ensure adherence to change management, escalation, and operational standards

Network Assessment & Analysis

• Conduct
  data collection, network audits, and optical analysis
• Assess existing network conditions to support migration and optimization efforts
• Identify risks, dependencies, and remediation requirements

Ciena Navigator Deployment

• Perform
  Ciena Navigator installation and integration services
• Support system integration, validation, and operational handoff
• Assist with troubleshooting and post-migration stabilization

Documentation & Reporting

• Produce accurate design documents, migration plans, and close-out reports
• Maintain clear communication with internal teams and customers throughout project lifecycles

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience designing Ciena optical networks
• Proven expertise with Ciena 6500 RLS platforms
• Hands-on experience with:
• hot cut span rolls
• Circuit migrations in live production networks
• Optical transport integration and migration support
• Strong experience creating and executing
  MOPs and rollback procedures
• Experience performing SoW/requirements analysis, data collection, and network audits
• Direct experience with Ciena Navigator installation and integration
• Strong understanding of DWDM and optical transport fundamentals
• Ability to work in maintenance windows (nights/weekends) as required

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting Tier-1 Service Providers or large-scale enterprise networks
• Familiarity with regulated or mission-critical network environments
• Strong troubleshooting skills across optical layers
• Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills
