As the Technical Specialist for Knits and Knit-to-Shape category, you play a vital role in protecting Arc'teryx brand integrity by upholding global standards for product construction, manufacturing best practices, and quality protocols across all knit product categories and production locations. As a subject matter expert, you ensure the creation of best-fitting and performing knit-to-shape products through advanced knitting processes. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and external partners to guarantee that product and process standards are clearly understood, consistently implemented, and rigorously maintained. Meet Your Future Team: The Product Integrity team ensures that all products are constructed in accordance with Arc'teryx quality standards. We safeguard brand product integrity through establishing best practices and ensuring stringent adherence to specification and construction methods. We secure bulk readiness and support growth plans with existing and new vendors by providing guidance on both current application and new methods of handling product and material processes. If you were the Technical Specialist 2, here are some of the core responsibilities you would be doing:
- Participate in Maker's Phase with Design and Product Development teams, providing feedback to ensure products meet Arc'teryx quality standards.
- Attend Design initiations, prototype reviews, buy-ready signoffs, and other seasonal meetings to provide technical expertise on new models, constructions, and materials.
- Apply technical knitting knowledge to construct knit-to-shape products (integral/whole-garment knitting) that deliver sustainability, comfort, durability, and production efficiency benefits.
- Provide feedback on comfort and range of motion of the garments for garment to follow the body's natural contours more closely to enhance range of motion and comfort against the skin.
- Collaborate with Materials Development and Advanced Concepts teams during R&D stages, advising on testing requirements and quality standards. Review test reports, material specifications, and physical samples of new models.
- Provide technical guidance to suppliers and labs on brand standards, testing, and quality requirements in partnership with cross-functional teams.
- Consolidate relevant documentation for standards, protocols and other product integrity and quality elements into a Knit-to-shape specific quality manual and specification manual.
- Build a library of defect code classification with photo and physical references
- Maintain regular communication with Asia teams and vendors to ensure protocols are understood and followed.
- Collaborate closely with Design, Development, and Materials teams in North Vancouver and Asia throughout the I2C process until pre-production sample approval.
- Review tech packs and construction elements for accuracy and design-for-manufacturing (DFM), focusing on sampling challenges for new and transition models.
- Conduct seasonal technical quality reviews (TQR) of prototypes and samples.
- Approve sealed samples at size set stage for bulk production.
- Prepare CTQ instructions for new models and lead seasonal handover meetings to educate QC teams.
- Perform risk assessments and oversee high-risk models from development through bulk production.
- Oversee preventive actions such as pilot runs and TOP for high-risk models.
- Support onboarding programs for new vendors and contribute to sourcing exploration and qualification assessments.
- Build and support in achieving departmental KPIs and objectives.
- Lead training workshops for internal teams and Asia Quality partners to build expertise in knit and knit-to-shape products and critical-to-quality operations, driving consistency and elevating product quality.
- You have 5+ years of product or technical development experience in apparel, including 3+ years as a knit -to-shape subject matter expert. (seamless garments such as Bra, Tops, Legging, Socks, Toques etc.)
- You have knowledge of Knit-to shape products and manufacturing techniques.
- You have Knit-to shape Garment Construction Knowledge, understanding how different pieces fit together (e.g., set-in sleeves, necklines, heels of socks) to create a well-fitting final product.
- You have mathematical Skills which are essential for calculating stitch counts, yarn usage, sizing, and grading patterns to fit various body configurations.
- You understand Technical writing/Pattern Interpretation, the ability to translate complex design ideas into clear, concise instructions or to accurately follow detailed patterns and charts
- You understand Gauge and Tension Control in product making, to achieve and maintain a consistent gauge for ensuring the final product matches the intended size and dimensions.
- You have strong technical skills in understanding knitting machinery and software, with expertise in yarn selection.
- You have problem-solving and communication skills to collaborate with designers and production teams, and to maintain accurate records
- You have post-secondary degree in manufacturing or textiles.
- You have the ability to travel, as required.
