Position Summary:
Wasauksing First Nation is accepting applications for a Child Wellbeing Team Supervisor. The First Nation Child Wellbeing Services Supervisor is highly motivated, has exceptional advocacy skills, and possesses critical knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act and the Act respecting First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children, youth and families. The First Nation Child and Family Services Supervisor acts on behalf of Wasauksing First Nation as a party under the Child, Youth and Family Services Act to advocate for the safety and well-being of children and families affiliated with Wasauksing First Nation and involved with Child Welfare, both on and off reserve. This individual provides clinical supervision, case management, guidance, and leadership to team members while working in partnership with the Wasauksing First Nation legal team, provides case collaboration with external child welfare agencies, and supports children and families with community links and resources. Reports must also be developed for the Director of Social Programming and Wellness and working with the First Nation Child and Family Services team to move the program forward. This person provides supervisory coverage and manages a client caseload to ensure that the rights of children and their families are respected throughout the planning process and court proceedings, and works to ensure a culturally appropriate disposition of the case.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Team supervision, guidance, and case management of the First Nation Representative Services Program
- Supervises secondary prevention support services to Wasauksing First Nation members, community members, and affiliated families involved in child welfare.
- Provides support and knowledge of the Child Welfare system and alternative options for children and families requiring support and care.
- Oversees the representation of Wasauksing First Nation's interests in child protection proceedings, hearings, and child welfare agency matters.
- Fosters a strong knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act and the Act respecting First Nations, Inuit, and Metis children, youth, and families.
- Responsibilities related to representing Wasauksing First Nation and promoting culturally appropriate services.
- Performs general supervisory duties, specific program administration and case management.
- Compliance with all policies and procedures approved for the First Nation.
- Requirement to conduct annual performance reviews for all staff under the direct supervision of the supervisor
- Adhere to all policies and procedures of Wasauksing First Nation and any other relevant policies and procedures from external agencies and partners
- Perform other duties within the scope of the position as assigned by the Manager or Supervisor
Education & Experience:
- Minimum post-secondary university degree in Social Work, Social Science, or a related field
- In good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or other applicable governing bodies is an asset
- Minimum five years of experience working with a First Nation community in the social services field, with two years in a supervisory role.
- Direct experience working with Indigenous families, youth and children.Ability to speak, read and understand Anishnaabemowin (Ojibway Language) is an asset.
- Training will be provided to the selected candidate.
Other Requirements
- Valid Driver's License and reliable personal vehicle
- Willing to work flexible hours as required, including evenings and weekends
- Available for on-call after hours and during weekends as required.
- This position requires the individual to work with various families, youth and children. To protect children, youth and vulnerable persons, Wasauksing First Nation requires the individual to provide a vulnerable sector. Or criminal record check
