IMS Database Administrator

Duration:
3 months then FTE

Location:
Toronto, ON, (In person every Tuesday and every 2nd Friday)- 5X/Month Onsite

Interview process:
2 Interviews- 1st virtual and 2nd in person with Manager

Compensation:
$50-$60/Hour and Post conversion- Base of k+ Bonus

Role Overview:

  • The successful candidate will provide application support for products, including object and application creation.
  • Responsible for IMS and transaction manager (IR) portion, CICS, and DB2 operations.
  • Part of the support cycle, including pager/on-call rotations.
  • Team acts as first-level debug before escalation to vendor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Database Administration: DB2 and IMS schema, objects, performance tuning, backups, recovery.
  • Application Support: Debug application issues related to DB2/IMS/CICS.
  • Transaction Manager/CICS: Knowledge of transaction flows, troubleshooting, and application interactions.
  • Object/Application Creation: Create DB2 tables, IMS databases, batch jobs, or CICS transactions as needed.
  • Collaboration: Work between application developers and vendor support, resolving issues before escalation.
  • Support Cycle Participation: Pager/on-call rotation responsibilities; respond to critical incidents.
  • Mentoring junior DBAs.
  • Mentoring application developers.
  • Providing SME level support on IMS, DB2, CICS.

Must Haves:

  • 6+ years of experience working as a DBA, supporting applications.
  • Background in App Dev and debugging.
  • Strong experience with Mainframe Database Technology- DB2, IMS, CICS
  • Strong experience with DB2 administration, schema, queries, and performance optimization.
  • CICS knowledge: understanding of transaction processing and interaction with DB2/IMS.
  • Experience with Application processing, development and troubleshooting in the z/OS mainframe environment.
  • Experienced with ServiceNow.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues across database and application layers.
  • Excellent communication and experience liaising effectively with developers and vendor support.

Pluses:

  • Strong understanding of risk mitigation, MACRO 4 Suite of tools- DumpMaster, InSync, TraceMaster
  • Strong understanding of security best practice for transactional data.
