Clinical Advisory Manager, First Nations Molecular Point of Care Program (Identified role)

  • Employment Type: Part - time (Flexible across 17.5 – 28 hours a week)
  • Duration: 1-Year Fixed Term (possible extension funding dependant)
  • Remuneration: $148k -$157k base prorated, +17% superannuation and a leave loading. An additional loading may also be applicable and will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.

  • Location: Kensington NSW, but hybrid or remote work locations across Australia are also considered

A bit about the program and the difference this role will make

The Clinical Advisory Manager for the First Nations Molecular Point of Care (POC) Program will be responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of projects nationally. We work with local communities to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia, primarily focused on point-of-care testing for infectious diseases. The program aims to strengthen the scope and reach of point-of-care testing to rural and remote regions in Australia.

The Kirby Institute works in partnership with the International Centre of Point-of-Care testing, Flinders University. This role requires working closely with the Flinders' team, and entails providing high quality project management across implementation initiatives. This includes the development, implementation and review of work plans, project systems and governance structures in collaboration with project teams and partner organisations, to ensure the efficient and effective implementation, and running of the program, including reporting.

The role of Clinical Advisor reports to Program Head, Surveillance, Evaluation & Research Program (SERP) and whilst the role has no direct reports, they will take a lead role in mentoring and supporting Program staff, including but not limited to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.

Some key skills required:

  • Master of Public health, or equivalent postgraduate qualification in relevant field.
  • Registered Medical Practitioner with AHPRA, FRACGP or equivalent highly desirable OR a Registered Nurse with APHRA, is essential.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with an understanding of the approach, skills and personal attributes required.
  • Extensive demonstrable experience working with primary health services, in regional and remote areas, or if in urban areas, equivalent knowledge and understanding of the unique issues for primary health care services in remote Australia. Experience in infectious disease public health programs is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical program strategy development, governance and policy.
  • Project management experience, with an understanding of the project life cycle and strategic development of project plans, objectives and documentation. Experience with preparation and monitoring of project budgets is highly desirable.
  • Excellent consultation, influencing and negotiation skills and proven ability to engage effectively and foster strong, healthy working relationships with diverse stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
