PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  

As a member of the Information Technology Services leadership team, the Director, Data & Reporting is responsible for the planning, development, and delivery of the University's enterprise reporting platforms, data models, and analytics services supporting administrative and operational decision-making. The role ensures that institutional data is treated as a strategic asset through the establishment of policies, standards, and frameworks for data governance, data quality, metadata practices, and enterprise reporting solutions. This position manages the BI/reporting development function, including stewardship of the enterprise reporting environment, while participating in institutional data governance structures to advance the campus data strategy.


•    Determines assignments for projects and support, including the assembly of teams, definition of respective roles / responsibilities, setting of objectives / expectations and in establishing corresponding priorities and timelines

•    Defines standards, procedures and practices used by the team to deliver services to the campus community

•    Motivates, mentors and manages direct reports using formal reviews and corresponding action plans and coaches staff for success

•    Implements the governance framework to enable governance activity to be conducted.

•    Sets standards for data modelling and design tools and techniques, advises on their application and ensures compliance

•    Manages data analytics activities, establishing frameworks and methodologies aligned with business objectives and data governance policies

•    Ensures that service delivery is monitored effectively and that identified actions to maintain or improve levels of service are implemented

•    Ensures that incidents are handled according to established procedures

•    Provides specialist expertise in the design characteristics of database management systems or data warehouse products/services

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

•    Master Degree in Computer Science, Business, Data Science or equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by the department

•    5 years of progressive experience:

O Management in a technical or related department 

O Development of enterprise data analytics, reporting, and enterprise business intelligence.

O Implementing data governance frameworks and BI/reporting platforms (Power BI preferred).

O Data privacy, data quality, and classification standards.

    O Management of relational databases, ERP data structures, data warehousing, and metadata management.

•    Demonstrated ability to effectively:

    O Communicate, both written and verbal 

    Written - writing concise, grammatically correct business correspondence including analytical reports, budget submissions, project and technical reports 

    Verbal - ability to make oral group presentations to executive stakeholders 

    O Organize work and prioritize assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in  workload; changes in assignments; pressures of deadlines; competing requirements; heavy workload 

    O Motivate others; stimulate people to effective action 

    O Negotiate and exchange ideas, information, and opinions with others to formulate policies and programs   and / or arrive jointly at decisions, conclusions and solutions 

    O Work as part of a team; collaborating with colleagues and interact diplomatically with other campus departments and external stakeholders 

•    Demonstrated experience in vendor management and capacity planning in a fast growth environment

•    Experience in developing and implementing IT strategies and roadmaps aligned with business objectives.

•    Demonstrated commitment for promoting and imbedding Indigenization, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in the delivery of strategic services
