JOB DESCRIPTION

The Flooring Specialist is a customer-focused sales professional with specialized knowledge of flooring products and related materials. This role is responsible for assisting customers with product selection, measurements, and accurate quoting, as well as processing orders and providing follow-up on product availability. The Flooring Specialist delivers an exceptional in-store experience by ensuring customers receive knowledgeable guidance, clear pricing, and dependable service aligned with their project needs.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable service to all customers in the flooring department.
  • Advise customers on appropriate flooring products including hardwood, laminate, vinyl, tile, carpet, underlayment, trims, and accessories.
  • Educate customers on product features, warranties, care, maintenance, and suitability for different applications.
  • Assist customers in selecting all materials required to complete their flooring project.
  • Maintain a high level of flooring product knowledge and stay current with industry trends, new products, and installation methods.
  • Assist customers in locating merchandise in-store, online at , or through special order programs.
  • Build, maintain, and update flooring displays, signage, and promotional setups.
  • Ensure pricing, bins, and displays are accurate and current.
  • Replenish merchandise, restock shelves, and maintain a clean, organized flooring department.
  • Participate in cycle counts and annual inventory.
  • Check incoming merchandise against invoices to identify shortages, damages, or backorders. Report damaged goods, inventory discrepancies, or supply issues to management.
  • Follow all store policies related to loss prevention, cash handling, merchandising, and safety.
  • Assist customers with carrying or loading flooring materials as required.
  • Work collaboratively with coworkers across departments to ensure a seamless customer experience.
  • Attend store meetings, training sessions, and product knowledge events as required.
  • Work safely in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation and report hazards or unsafe behavior.
  • Be present on the sales floor five (5) minutes prior to your shift and utilize the six-foot (6') rule to greet all customers.
  • If a customer requires help in adjoining departments, walk with the customer to the area, use open end questions to determine their needs, and hand off to another associate if necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Flooring Sales or trade experience
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively and constructively with customers, suppliers and coworkers, ability to deescalate difficult situations
  • Work well under pressure
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Prior retail experience beneficial.
  • Creative abilities for making attractive in-store displays, organized
  • Willingness to continually develop professional skills and knowledge base.
  • Ability to work co-operatively in a team atmosphere
  • Confident, high energy, self-motivated and a true team player

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Standing/walking for 8+ hours.
  • Lifting and/or carrying merchandise items, as required, on a frequent and unassisted basis. Merchandise items may vary in weight up to 50 lbs.
  • Lifting and turning repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • Lifting above the shoulder, from floor to shoulder and floor to waist.
  • Walking and carrying at the same time and pushing/pulling as required.
  • Twisting, turning, reaching, and working above shoulder level.

AVAILABILITY:

Ability to work a flexible schedule including , evenings, holidays and weekends.
