We are inviting applications for the position of permanent part-time Nurse Practitioner-Primary Health Care (NP-PHC) for our Thorne Nursing Station, who will be expected to work three (3) shifts per month unless otherwise agreed. The Thorne Nursing Station is located in the town of Thorne, Ontario and is a satellite health care site of the Hôpital de Mattawa Hospital. Our bilingual facility follows the vision of "Together, Guided by Medicine, Inspired by Faith, in a Place called Home" and is sponsored by the Catholic Health Sponsors of Ontario and licensed under the Ministry of Health, and accredited by Accreditation Canada.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the VP Clinical Services / CNO at the Hôpital de Mattawa Hospital, the Nurse Practitioner's role is comprised of four domains of practice including clinical practice, leadership, collaboration, and consultation. The Nurse Practitioner oversees the daily operations of the Thorne Nursing Station.

The services offered by the Nurse Practitioner at the Thorne Nursing Station include:

  • Primary care services
  • Preventative and urgent care to those with or without a primary care provider
  • Annual Health Exams
  • Prenatal and well-baby visits
  • Diagnosis and treatment
  • Prescribing medications and ordering tests
  • Lesion removal and suturing
  • Vaccinations, immunizations and allergy injections
  • Care for minor emergencies
  • Referrals to other health care professionals
  • Laboratory services, by appointments only

Qualifications:

  • Current registration in the Extended Class with College of Nurses of Ontario
  • 3-5 years clinical experience
  • Advanced assessment and diagnostic reasoning skills
  • Strong problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Must be able to practice independently and interdependently
  • Demonstrated leadership to advance the practice of nursing and inter-professional practice to achieve established goals
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop positive relationships with patients, families, physicians and inter-professional team members
  • Demonstrated use of theory and research to enable evidence based practice
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated program/project development
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
  • Ability to demonstrate customer focused skills which align with our Vision, Mission and Values.
  • Bilingual in English and French (required)
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (subject to accommodation obligations pursuant to Ontario Human Rights Code)
  • Criminal Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector
