Job Description:

Innovative Access (I.A.) is looking for a skilled and enthusiastic AutoCAD drafter/designer to join our high-rise equipment design team in the Ottawa – Gatineau region. The successful candidate will collaborate with our design and project management team to redefine Ottawa-Gatineau's skyline. Our team specializes in the design, fabrication and testing of high-rise access equipment for window cleaning, building maintenance, and fall protection systems. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional drafting expertise with the ability to perform testing and reviews on site.

You will be an important part of the team from the beginning of a project developing the schematic concept drawings, all the way through fabrication and construction of our high-rise maintenance equipment (Roof anchors, suspensions systems, monorails, BMU's, etc.,). If you are up for a challenge and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, this position is for you.

Your Role:

You will be responsible for the drafting of 2D equipment layout plans for high rise buildings, model our window cleaning equipment in 3D software (Autodesk Inventor, or similar), collaborate with the client, our in-house engineering team, our fabricators, suppliers and installation team. Perform site reviews and equipment testing.

Office Work:

  • Prepare functional equipment plans, equipment details, 2D models and diagrams, for maintenance personnel to repel on high-rise buildings.
  • Develop 3D and 2D equipment drawings in Autodesk Inventor.
  • Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, suppliers etc. to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and on budget.
  • Opportunity to develop new access equipment concepts and work with the engineering team make complete the design.
  • Develop internal CAD and Inventor standards and training manuals for new staff.
  • Assist with the development of new equipment concepts and in-house testing of prototypes.

Site Work:

  • Assist engineer and project foreman with load testing and commissioning of equipment on-site.
  • Prepare tools, equipment, and materials prior to site work.
  • Organize equipment and inventory.
  • Assist project foreman and design team with mock-ups prior to installation.
  • Assist with the transportation of equipment and deliveries.

Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Drafter/Designer in 2D (Min. 1 year)
  • Architectural technologist with college diploma.
  • Have received formal training in drafting and design.
  • Must be autonomous in design/drafting, able to turn specifications and hand sketches into fully functional plans and equipment models.
  • Ability to perform site reviews and testing on construction sites.
  • Construction background is considered an asset.
  • Full proficiency in the use of AutoCad 2D and Autodesk Inventor.
  • Attention to detail, self-check, quality control of his/her own work and the work of more junior team members.
  • Manage deliverables, work in a timely fashion and collaborative environment.
  • Have a passion for design/drafting and re-defining Ottawa-Gatineau's skyline.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written required.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality and innovation.
  • Valid drivers G licence with access to personal vehicle for site visits.
