This role is a hybrid work arrangement. Work schedule to be discussed with the hiring Manager according to the guidelines defined by the department.

Are you a political thinker with a passion for public broadcasting and a deep understanding of the Canadian parliamentary process? CBC/Radio-Canada is currently recruiting for a Senior Advisor to help support our relationships with elected officials of all parties and raise awareness of the value of public broadcasting for Canadians.

What you will do?

Parliamentary and Government Affairs:

  • Support the Executive Director in building and maintaining positive relationships with Government officials, Parliamentarians and their offices, and committee staff.

  • Serve as a key communication link between the Corporation and the parliamentary precinct, ensuring timely and effective responses to inquiries and Parliamentary Questions.

  • Closely follow parliamentary developments and be able to provide key advice to senior management.

  • Ensure representatives of the Corporation are prepared for effective appearances before parliamentary committees.

  • Proactively identify and communicate CBC/Radio-Canada's successes and value to political and public service stakeholders through briefing materials, outreach activities, and stakeholder events.

  • Develop creative proposals to enhance the Corporation's management of issues with parliamentary stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree and a minimum of three years of experience with government and/or parliamentarians.

  • In-depth knowledge of government and parliamentary structures, systems, and processes, along with demonstrated expertise in issues evaluation and management. Knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes, particularly for media and culture industries, is essential.

  • Must be bilingual (English and French) in speaking and reading. Writing in the other official language is an asset.

  • High level of interpersonal and communications skills, including discretion and diplomacy.

  • Proven ability to work independently, demonstrate sound judgment.

  • Strong teamwork skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple files in an occasional high-stress environment.

  • Must be available to occasionally work lengthy periods, sometimes without prior notice.

  • Work is primarily in Ottawa with occasional travel within Canada.
