-Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Dance Movement Therapist to join our team in Mississauga Ontario, specializing in working with older adults in a long term care facility. The ideal candidate will utilize dance and movement as a therapeutic tool to enhance the physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being of our elderly clients.

Schedule: 2-4 hours a month​

Duties:

  • Conduct group therapy sessions using dance and movement therapy techniques tailored to the needs of older adults.
  • Facilitate interventions that promote self-expression, relaxation, and social interaction.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client progress and treatment interventions.
  • Stay current with advancements in dance therapy research and techniques.

Skills:

- Certification or licensure as a Dance Movement Therapist (R-DMT).

  • Experience working with older adults in a therapeutic setting.
  • Ability to thoughtfully adapt movement interventions to accommodate a wide range of physical abilities and cognitive functioning levels.
  • Proficiency in adapting movement interventions​ to ensure accessibility, safety, and engagement for all participants.
  • Creative out-of-the-box thinker with a passion for delivering meaningful sensory stimulation, including for individuals with complex needs or advanced cognitive or physical challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Empathy and patience in working with older adults facing physical or cognitive challenges.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of ethical guidelines and professional standards in dance movement therapy.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a registered Dance Movement Therapist (R-DMT) or licensed Dance Therapist recognized by the Dance Movement Association in Canada (DMTAC).
  • Registered Psychotherapist (RP), registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) (an asset).
