About mddl
mddl is a housing innovation and enablement organization focused on accelerating
middle housing,
the duplexes, fourplexes, townhomes, and small-scale infill that sit between single-family homes and apartment buildings. We work at the intersection of education, policy, digital tools, and community-building to help everyday people, municipalities, and professionals understand how housing actually gets built. Our work spans Canada and the U.S., from municipal fast-track programs to university-based education, to hands-on training. We're growing quickly and looking for someone who can help us tell that story clearly, creatively, and consistently.
Role Description
We're looking for a full time Social Media Content Creator & Communications Coordinator who can own mddl's day-to-day digital presence and help translate complex housing, policy, and education work into accessible, engaging content.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is equal parts creator, coordinator, and strategic thinker. Someone who wants to
own
and
evolve
mddl's voice, look, and feel as we grow. You'll shape how mddl shows up in the world, internally and externally, and help turn complex housing work into content people actually want to read, share, and talk about. You'll be trusted to experiment, test new formats, push ideas forward, and help us define what mddl
sounds
and
looks
like next.
You'll work closely with leadership and program leads to shape content across platforms. particularly LinkedIn and Instagram, while supporting broader communications and storytelling needs across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Build (and Expand) the mddl Brand
- Help evolve mddl's brand voice, visual language, and storytelling style, not just maintain it
- Translate big ideas (housing, policy, education, systems change) into sharp, accessible content
- Propose new content formats, series, and experiments that move the brand forward
Create & Own Content
- Create social content across Instagram and LinkedIn (graphics, carousels, short videos, copy)
- Write posts, captions, and short-form pieces that sound human, not institutional
- Capture content from events, courses, workshops, and behind-the-scenes work
- Collaborate with leadership to turn ideas, insights, and opinions into content
Community & Channel Management
- Monitor social channels and mddl's owned community platform and engage with followers, partners, and stakeholders
- Respond to comments and messages in a timely, thoughtful way
- Track emerging conversations, trends, and opportunities relevant to housing, cities, and innovation
Communications & Coordination
- Support communications for programs, partnerships, events, and announcements
- Assist with drafting blog posts, newsletters, website copy, and short reports
- Coordinate content timelines around program launches, courses, and events
- Support event promotion and on-the-ground content capture when required
Reporting
- Track social media performance and prepare basic analytics summaries to inform strategy
- Support internal reporting and correspondence as needed
What We're Looking For
- ~3 years experience in social media, communications, digital marketing, or content creation
- A portfolio or links to previous work (required)
- Basic video editing or motion skills (Reels, short clips, captions)
- Excellent writing skills and a sharp eye for clear, engaging storytelling
- Comfort creating content from scratch (both visuals and copy)
- Familiarity with Instagram and LinkedIn best practices
- Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable working in a small, fast-moving team
- Detail oriented, organized and proactive
Nice to Have
- Experience working with mission-driven organizations, startups, or public-sector adjacent work
- Interest in housing, cities, public policy, education, or social impact (deep expertise not required)
- Experience supporting events, courses, or educational programs
Why Work With mddl
- Work on one of the most urgent issues in Canada and North America: housing
- Help shape the public narrative around middle housing and community-led development
- Opportunity to grow with an expanding organization
