About the Role

The Labourer I position is a non-technical general labour position which performs municipal works duties as required to maintain and improve municipal infrastructure. Seasonal Labourers may be recalled during lay-off periods for winter snow clearing work, as needed.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (preferred);
  • Post-secondary education in a related field (asset).

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Nova Scotia Class 5 driver's license (required)
  • First-aid (required, but may be supplied by employer)
  • WHMIS (required, but may be supplied by employer)

Experience:

  • 2 years of experience in construction or a related field is required.

Terms of Employment

  • Wage: $ 20.11/hr
  • Status: Unionized (CUPE, Local 1092)
  • Hours of Work: 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday, 8:00am- 4:30pm). Overtime as required. Seasonal (April – December annually).
  • Base of operations is the Public Works Garage.
  • Work is physically demanding, and the incumbent must be capable of meeting these demands including (but not limited to) standing, walking, climbing, crouching/bending, lifting, pushing/pulling, etc.
  • Work is mainly outdoors, and the incumbent may be exposed to adverse weather conditions including working in the heat/cold and inclement weather.
