Senior Level Designer
Join us on our journey and help us collaborate towards our newly announced game: Blood Message. It is set in historical China and features a realistic visual style and authentic traditional combat gameplay. The project is making use of Unreal Engine 5 and is co-developed in collaboration between Montreal and our main studio in China.
We are a co-development video game studio based in Montreal, Canada, committed to delivering exceptional gaming experiences. Our team collaborates closely with our headquarters in China. The position is currently open to candidates in Montreal or Toronto.
We are seeking a Level Designer who is passionate about creating immersive & captivating game worlds players will love to explore. The ideal candidate should be curious, invested, and excited about experimenting with innovative ideas to create both the big and little moments in the game world that enhance the narrative and make it come to life.
What will you be doing:
- Planning level designs using 2D maps, diagrams, and written documentation to outline the structure and flow.
- Designing and building game levels, including layout, pacing, and difficulty curve, to create an immersive experience.
- Designing high-quality level layouts that enhance the player's experience, focusing on cinematic and narrative-driven gameplay.
- Scripting events and interactions to enhance gameplay, such as enemy encounters or narrative moments.
- Collaborating with art, programming, and design teams to ensure a cohesive game experience, particularly in aligning with the game's historical and cultural setting.
- Communicating design intent through leading discussions, reviews, and level-production meetings to align with the game's vision.
- Establishing standards, conventions, and metrics to ensure quality and consistency across levels.
- Educating and mentoring staff on technical level design, tools, and best practices to foster team growth.
The skills we're looking for:
- 5 years of industry experience in Level Design for games, ensuring expertise in creating immersive environments.
- Experience shipping at least 2 games in a Level Design role, demonstrating a track record of successful projects.
- Familiarity with the single-player gaming landscape, particularly narrative-driven titles.
- Strong understanding of game mechanics, player psychology, and environmental storytelling, to create engaging and historically accurate levels.
- Strong collaboration skills, with an emphasis on ego-less teamwork to integrate feedback and ideas.
- A proactive attitude to grow, learn, and improve, align with the studio's innovative culture.
- A deep understanding of Agile frameworks to rapidly iterate on ideas and/or prototypes.
- Basic Unreal knowledge and blueprint scripting skills
- Understanding of Chinese Language is nice to have, but optional
