Senior Manager, Corporate Life Underwriting

Job Description
What is the opportunity?
You will support the broader Corporate Underwriting strategy and RBC Insurance through the delivery of innovative underwriting solutions including product development, financial underwriting, creation and maintenance of guidelines, portfolio insights, as well as accelerating the underwriting business. This is a non-production underwriting role.

What will you do?

• Set underwriting policy through the design of unique underwriting strategies to deliver a superior client experience and drive profitable growth.
• Represent Corporate Underwriting on multidisciplinary projects impacting product development, claims efficiencies, mortality monitoring and data science.
• Drive and support strategies that deliver improvements in underwriting philosophy.
• Act as a key resource to our life production underwriters.
• Build a strong technical knowledge as it relates to risk assessment to develop colleagues through coaching and training opportunities
• Proactively identify and action industry trends, developments, and regulatory changes
• Provide analysis and underwriting opinions on contestable claims rescissions and represent the organization as the underwriting expert in the event of litigated cases

What will you need to succeed?
Must have:

• Senior Life Insurance underwriter with 7+ years of experience and a strong grasp of individual life insurance products.
• A passion for your profession and igniting change within the business, challenging the status quo and finding new innovative ways to assess risk
• Strong technical background in risk management with interest in continuing development, underwriting efficiencies, guidelines and automated underwriting rules sets
• Excellent written communication, presentation skills, stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills

Nice to have:

• Bilingual French/English (written, oral)
• Critical Illness and/or Disability underwriting experience would be an asset
• Working knowledge of project management framework
• FALU or working towards
